Is the musical good?

I'm going to see it on June 3rd and I loved the movie and the book. A lot of people say that it's really different from both of those. My 11 year old sister is going with me and people say that the show is scary! Is it really?

It's probably only scary to young kids in some scenes.

And apparently many people think the show is "good," considering how well it sells out around the world and how long it's been running, and that there are many, many cast recordings to choose from, and the fact that there is a movie version at all.

If you liked the film (God knows why people do as it isn't very good) then you will love the show. It is a million times better than the film, much pacier and punchier and the singig is excellent as well as the whole atmosphere.

Assuming you get a good cast.

Also, I think you meant singing. I'll forgive you for that one, but what the hell is "pacier"? Everything has a pace. It's impossible to be "pacier".

I thought the film was very good but whatever people have there own feelings toword things I guess. Just wanted to see what other people thought because a few people who want to see on Broadway in my school said that it was pretty bad. It seems you all like it though, which makes me excited to see it myself!

hmm... well usually the people who didnt like the film were people who have already seen the show and know that the singers were aweful (with exception for Rauol).
I have seen the show more times than I can count, however, i saw it for the first time on Broadway about a month ago and hated it. The singers were all casted wrong. Horrifically done. I was glad I didnt pay as much as I wanted to see it.
But otherwise I LOVE the show. I dont think its really scary but its a stretch (depending on your age as the others said).

i didn't see the film so i can't speak on that...but i did see the show on broadway and definately enjoyed it. i didn't think it was out of this world, but i liked it. the music is too operatic for me at times (and don't tell me that that's what the show's all about, i know that Wink )

but yes, overall it's a great show and you should have a great time. it's not that scary, your 11 year old sister shouldn't have a problem. have fun!

Megan you are a bit picky!!! I saw the show in London a couple of times and it was much PACIER than the film because the film plods along and drags on and on and on...
The singing on the occasions I have seen the show have been very good but then again I did get to see John Owen Jones who is excellent. I understand tha a lot of people like Gerard Butler but I think that is a bit dubious as most of them are female and mention how gorgeous he is in the same sentence as how good they think he is. Sounds to me like people are just taken with his looks and overlook the fact he can't sing.

While I stick to my guns regarding the "pacier" debate, I agree with you about Gerard Butler. It seems the world has forgotten that the Phantom is supposed to be, I don't know, hideous.

The movie had some really slow scenes so it might be better in a faster pace. I was one of those girls who fell in love with Gerard Butler but now that you metion it, you are right. I liked him for his looks and thats not how people are supposed to like the phantom, for he finds himself ugly and so should we. I think he had a nice singing voice though!

I saw the show a year or two ago. I had heard the recording and listened to it often but I had never seen it (this was before the movie came out, obviously). I absolutely loved it! It was an awesome experience that I'll remember forever. And you shouldn't worry too much about your sister....my 8 year old sister doesn't get scared at all.

Not with Tweety Bird Brightman

I much prefer Emmie Rossi but I haven't seen the stage show so I can't comment on it but from recordings I don't really like Sarah Brightman. I like her in Song & Dance.

Emmy Rossum.

I can't say that I've seen the musical on-stage, but I loved the film (Yup, I'm hereby backing-up past claims...).
Judging by the west end versions of songs that I've heard, I MUCH prefer the singing in the film. Gerard Butler's voice is just so powerful. And Emmy Rossum's such a fitting Christine.

I'm just about to settle down to read the book which is on loan from a friend who is more obsessed with the film than I am...

I saw the musical a few years ago and it was awesome, I loved it! This was way befor the movie ever came out, I've never seen the movie so not sure on how similar they are to one another!
