Is Shrek related to Elphaba?

I mean, they're both green... How many green humanoids are there??

Discuss!!
MariekeLovesEnjolras

Shrek is an ogre. Elphaba isn't.
GungaDin

That's NOT the point. The point is they belong to the same race...
Salome

elphaba isnt an ogre.
GungaDin

Well, SHrek isn't a witch or warlock either.
Monsieur D'Arque

Looking at the characters' development...

Shrek is Scotch-Canadian, living in Far Far Away.

Elphaba is Australian-American, living in Oz.

Elphaba lacks most of Shrek's species' features, namely magical ogre ears.

This was meant to be a whimsical thread.
Luc

The only things they have in common are that they are both green, and both mean.

And that society rejects them both, thinks they're evil when they aren't and is discriminative toward them because of their skin colour/species.
Salome

andt hey are both the lead role in a shitty show. LOL

kozafluitmusique

I'm sorry if I'm missing the point to this thread. I just don't see how it could be justified that they would be related. Sure their characters are similar but they're too different to be related.
Baker

This thread is so racist.

OK, for real though, why are you guys being dumb? The original poster was obviously joking. I thought it was funny. Not the most clever of jokes, sure, but really you guys? Chill out.
ActingDude17

I mean, really guys. It's the Wicked board. If you take anything here seriously you're pretty dumb.
nabla

Elphaba "I don't know what i'm gonna do if Wicked closes, there aren't a lot of jobs for me"
Phantom "Well you could always star in Shrek the musical"
Elphaba "Wow, that was racist" - SNL
Laughing
What you own

^ Lol gotta love SNL
"You from the color purple"
"I'm not from the color purple"
"Bringin da noise bringin da funk"

Shrek is Canadian?? Shocked
Monsieur D'Arque

Shrek's accent is not Scottish, as it's been claimed, but Scotch-Canadian, a genuine dialect with its own influences from both linguistic patterns. Listen to Mike Myers do both Shrek and Fat Bastard and you'll see what I mean here.

The accent has become enough a part of the character that it's probably his most recognizable feature, other than the whole "green" thing.
Amy_Vocalist

I find that racist.

No not all GREEN people are related, what are you trying to say huh, that they all LOOK THE SAME TO YOU HUH HUH HUH

Is this still at the top of the page? Why?

I am enjoying all the nods to SNL and Avenue Q a lot.

Sometimes.

On Shrek's accent: it is neither Scotch nor Canadian. It is Mike Myers. Yes, Mike Myers is an accent.

Because you keep replying, lol

Me too Laughing
Monsieur D'Arque

The accent is not just a funny thing Myers invented. It is indeed a Scotch-Canadian accent.

It's based on his Scottish grandmother's accent, softened with a Canadian touch from years of citizenship. She would read fairy tales to him as a child, so he went to her accent for a fairy-tale creature.

I was under the impression he was a comedian.... Question
Mistress

*sigh* I was being sarcastic... suppose it doesn't come over...
LansburyLuPone

Well, now that you've mentioned it. I heard that Shrek is one of elphaba's distant cousins.
nickdcpa

gah-linda

i think it would be so funny if during wicked, glinda made a joke about shrek-- but i think it would be distracting and not relevant to the play--so i will allow them not to include it Smile

Lawlz.
I don't think Shrek is a money scam. It's legitimately a decent show. A bizarre and unnecessary choice for a show, yes, but a decent one.

iDEFY

If Shrek and Elphaba were related,I really wouldn't want to be at their family reunion.
