Is it just me?

Ok, so in October I was in a performance of Cats. We didn't have a Jemima, but the girl who played Bombalurina sang Jemima's parts. Is it just me or is that just completely wrong? I mean, Bomb is like the "sexy cat" or whatever, and Jemima's completely her opposite, pure and innocent.. That was just bothering me today... Neutral

I think I agree with you there... Those lines Jemima sings are a direct contrast to Grizabella. Griz is old, fallen, jaded, as un-innocent as you can imagine. The "Sunlight through the trees in summer..." lines need to be as pure and innocent to give that contrast. Bombalurina, gorgeous tho she is, is more like Griz before she left, not an innocent soul.

Apparently the original plan was to have Victoria singing, the innocent white kitten dancer would also be the innocent pure voiced singer. But they couldn't find a dancer with the voice, so they split the innocent kitten into two roles - Jemima and Victoria. I don't think it's vital that JEMIMA sings those lines - but it needs to be a young, innocent pure-voiced kitten.

Agreed... Although I swear that I saw Demeter singing it the last time I saw the US tour... (The intro anyway. Sillabub still sing the duet with Grizabella.)

I've seen Demeter sing Jemima's lines before and Victoria as well. Those were on youtube videos of various tours though.

Unless they changed Bombalurina's character she is not ideal to sing Jemima's lines. How was her character portrayed?
