Has anyone noticed how the tempi of many song reprises in the film version tend to be faster than when we first hear the songs? I think this is true, at least, for the reprises of Edelweiss and So Long, Farewell. I think the faster tempi in the reprise of So Long, Farewell seems to work better because it befits the desperation that the Trapp family felt to escape the Nazis. In contrast a slower tempi for the Edelweiss reprise would have served the ong better, and conveyed the gravitas of the scene.
