Into the Woods Sets

I was just wanting to know if you guys could share ideas about how you all did your sets for your procutions?

Had 3 flats for the opening scene(Cindy's was double-sided to change from Home to Castle) that was the homes. We had a ramp starting on one side of the stage, went around the pit and all the way to the other side of the stage. When everyone went "into the woods" the curtains would close, crew would take the flats down. Behind the flats were a black trees background, a scrim behind that for the sky(the lights behind it would change colors as it went from day to night). We also had two ramps onstage that led off, and left us with four entrances.

That sounds pretty cool? When you say you had black trees in the background - where they tree silhouette type things?

Made of plywood?

What other ways are there in doing woods? We have a big oak tree that is being cut down at our choreographers house and we thought we might be able to utalise some of the branches?

Whats neat is in some productions how the set moves around to give the illusion of different areas of the woods. Any clever ideas on how to pull that off?
