Info On The Role Of Lily St. Regis

My community theatre is doing Annie in the fall and I want to audition for Lily but I have a conflict. I am participating in our high school showchoir and I can't spend a TERRIBLE amount of time on rehearsals. I have several questions:

-How demanding is the role?
-Exactly how big is the part?
-What all songs does she sing?
-What might be a good audition song....??

Thank you all...

Although she is one of the few main female characters, Lily is actually a really small role. She sings "Easy Street" and the reprise of it, and is in three or four scenes. She often doubles as a Boylan sister or Star-to-Be, or another cameo role. It isn't a very demanding role (Annie is the most demanding role in the show), but she does get the third or fourth to last bow.

Based on your explanation, it sounds like Lily would be the perfect role for you! Not a lot of singing, four scenes with dialogue, and the one dance number. But she is sooooo much fun to play!

How are you with accents? Being able to play dumb and do the Jersey accent is key (at least, that's what got me the role).

Well...I'm okay with accents but that would be one that I think I could practice to perfect..... Thank you guys so much for all your help!!!! This info was VERY helpful....I can't wait to audition...and I think I could pull off Lily...would be very fun for me I think... I just needed to know because I already had a commitment to showchoir and wasn't sure if I could make EVERY rehearsal..so maybe this is a good part for me!!! Thanks!!! Smile

The only main male parts are Warbucks and Rooster. The rest are all girls!

That's true. But there are a lot of chorus female roles. I was trying to distinguish her from them...
...I also consider the President to be a main role. He's only in two or three scenes, but he's rather important to the plot... and he's referred to quite often.

Also, in case this helps, in most productions I've seen, Lily doesn't double with any other roles, nor is she necessarily also part of the ensemble as well. The actress playing her is usually just Lily.

I ended up joining the ensemble in Hooverville and NYC, but that's just because I was willing to do extra stuff (and attend extra rehearsals). We've got a really small cast - only three women in the ensemble - and the music director and choreographer wanted the extra woman in those two numbers. If I hadn't been in those, I'd have had considerably fewer rehearsals than any other cast member (except for Rooster, of course).

Our Lily is a Boylan sister and one of the female soloists in "We'd Like to Thank You".
