inexperienced actress??

i was a bit frustrated to find out that the girl selected to play nala on broadway for this show had never done any show before in her life, and had absolutely no musical experience.

shouldn't the girls who have been acting for a long time and been working hard have been given the advantage?

i think so - call me ignorant, but i don't think it's right for someone with absolutely no experience - not even a small school play - to have a lead in a broadway musical.

what do you all think?

I kind of disagree. I think if someone is talented, they should at least have a decent chance to get a role no matter how experienced he or she is.

By the way, what is the name of this new actress to play Nala?

That it happens all the time and you should save your righteous indignation for a worthier cause.

I believe if someone has the right talent, and is the best they saw in the auditions, then they should get the part. Everyone has to start somewhere and if her first show is on Broadway then thats great for her.

There are a lot of people out there who have undiscovered talent who never get work because they don't have the experience.
People should look past what they've done before and look at their talent and how they use it.

Experienced Asian/Afro-American ten year old children aren't very easy to find. And everyone has to start somewhere. If one has enough talent, why would you not let them perform?

If you're talking about Adult Nala, they both had experience; Heather Headley in 'Aida' and Kissy Simmons in smaller stuff

If nobodies were never cast as leads, Idina Menzel never would have had her "big break" in RENT.

"Aida" came after "the Lion King." I remember when Heather was accepting her Tony for "Aida" she mentioned that she remembered being on the Tony award stage with the cast of "the Lion King" a few years(or so) before.

I don't believe that a lack of experience should hold anyone back from auditioning for a show or from getting a lead whether it be in a school play or on Broadway. My first show in high school, my freshman year, I landed Hermia in A Midsummer Night's Dream. This past year our two major female leads in Arsenic and Old Lace went to two girls who had never done a production before. I think that if you have the talent that they should give you the part.

If she's talented enough to make it to Broadway, why complain? Things aren't always fair and the people who work their butts off aren't always the ones who end up on Broadway. Much of this buisness is who you know and not completely talent based. I think its refreshing to see someone with little to no real experience get their big broadway break.

I think it's fine for the kids to be casted like that but adults no. People work way to hard all their life to get into those shows. People with raw talent should be trained in the chorus at best.

If you have the talent, I say go for it.
It shouldn't matter whether you've been in 2 productions, 100 productions, or none at all. If no one ever casted inexperienced actors, there would be the same people over and over acting in various shows and whatnot, variety would cease to exist and "hidden talent" would never be able to be found. Call me extreme, but it's the truth.
