I wouldn't mind seeing this show done a la "Little Me," with the leading player doubling the roles of Charlemagne, Berthe, The Head, and other small speaking parts. It would add to the "phoniness" of the situation as well, and show Pippin's confusion.

he cant double as charlamagne..too much dialouge between them, charles is a huge role. but ...i can see it done with Berthe..the head and even creepily..Theo. it may work even better that way if the lead player were female.

I'm working on writing an "experimental draft" of teh Pippin script, revised, adapted somewhat, and made into a new show stylistically, using all the selections thrown around on this board. It's shaping up interestingly.

Man, if I were to revive Pippin myself...
I'd set it in a completely flexible performance space and make it like a HUGE black-box so the stage meets the audience and the orchestra would be masked throughout the stage. Also, there would be rotating scenery and boards and pipes that would be able to make new levels every scene. It'd be a very amazing, industrial set which after "Magic to Do" the cast would themselves decorate it with "magic tricks" and different techniques.
The ending: No Theo-ending. Just "Trapped, but happy" and the stage-light would go out and Pippin and Cat would make their way out. House-lights up and end of show. No curtain-call...remember, Pippin, Catherine and Theo ruined everything so why would they return? I want to the show to take its self seriously.
Oh, and two amazing dancers, seductresses would be The Leading Player's "Lovely Assistants" and would do his bidding in leading Pippin the right way while he uses his words and dance to direct it all.
My cast? Well...
The Leading Player - Raul Esparza
Pippin - Chris Hanke
Catherine - Lea Michelle (AMAZING in Spring Awakening)
Fastrada - Patti LuPone
Berthe - Mary Louise Wilson
Charlemagne - EH!? I don't know...
OH! And...
Monsieur D'Arque! How is it coming along, by the way?
