If you could remake the film...

So it's pretty much common knowledge that the film adaption of Cabaret blows big time. What would your ideal cast be with current Hollywood actors? What would the "look and feel" of the film be like if you could remake it?

As far as casting goes, the first person I'd call is Meryl Streep for the role of Fraulein Schneider. More of my ideas to come once this thread gets off the ground...
LadyOfTheLake

I'd love to see Catherine Zeta-Jones as Sally Bowles...
wtfchuck

i'd love to see David Bowie (a fewyears ago though)playing the Master of Ceremonies.

and also Catherine Zeta-Jones is a good idea!
Monsieur D'Arque

David Lynch is the director you'd want for this one
theatre4life

well, i hope they'd keep that Fosse choreography.
blue wind

i'd like to put the storyline closer to that of the show.

honestly, when i saw the movie for the first time, i didn't really understand what was going on at all and the only parts I enjoyed were the musical numbers in the club.

but when i saw the show, live, i understood everything (even though it was only a high school production). the only thing i didn't like was how there was SO MUCH of the two old people singing i got rly sick of them.

Catherina Zeta-Jones is TOO OLD.
Also, isn't Sally Bowles supposed to be a second rate singer? - Truth
If Sienna Miller could match pitch, she'd be a perfect Sally Smile

Many actresses who have played Sally are around the same age as Catherine Zeta-Jones. (Hell, Natasha Richardson and Gina Gershon were older than Zeta-Jones when they played the role on Broadway!) I agree with you on the matter of vocals, though.
bare24601!

I absolutely love the film. It's one of my favorites.. but then again I've never seen it on stage.

Zeta-Jones is far too attractive for this part. Her singing doesn't worry me, she is a very average singer, so suitable for Sally Bowled - but looks wise she is definitely far too pretty. Sally is not meant to be beautiful.
Salome

Richardson is beautiful and they made her look more haggard for the role.

I'd love to see Hopkins and Dench as Shultz and Schnieder. ans Ralph Fiennes as Ernst.
Monsieur D'Arque

In a film, they could use the Revival's concept of the Emcee as Evil/German Corruption personified much more clearly. In the play, he's mainly the Emcee. His voice turns up from time to time as a German official or other position, but in a film, I think the significance of seeing the Emcee's face again and again (Nazi posters, German soldiers, rioters, even with a moustache as Hitler himself) would be a very disturbing image.
JIJane

Salome - I like it. Wink

I'd like to see this cast:

Sally bowles- Claire pérot (2007 french cast)
Fraulein Schneider- Juliette Lewis
Emcee- Jon Peterson
Cliff Bradshaw- Steve Buscemi
Herr Schultz- Johnny Rotten
Fraulein cost- Christina Ricci

And the whole thing directed by larry Clark, or by me^^
Salome

Salome, are you serious?! Don't you like any other actress except sofia coppola? (or is it my bad understanding of english that disturbed me?)
Salome

biouche64
