If you could change it....I know a lot of people don't like how the book was adapted into the musical. So i was wondering, if you had the chance how would you make it into a musical?
What scenes would you take from the book?
What scenes would be worthy of a song?
What charecters would be lead roles?
Would it be a children's play or an adult play?
Would it be more about politics and ethics?
Would the musical be more about Elphaba and less about the friendship between Elphaba an Glinda?
I was just wondering because alot of people don't like the musical at all but are in love with the book.
My opinion on the reason for them changing the play so much from the book is that they knew children would be interested and making it like the book would be much too complicated for them to understand.
Although there are some changes i would like to make to the musical, i still find it enjoyable and it did entertain me, as musicals must do.
I think it's done it's job, and found itself successful, which means people must like it. I know people think it's overrated, but i think it has done a good job of bringing people to liking musical theatre and becoming more open minded about it.
So anyway, back to the subject, any comments on how you would change it?
Much love,

I don't really know if this is what you're asking for, but I've always felt that Fiyero needs a second song in the first act, something that gives some hint of his affection for Elphaba. Granted, there is the lion cub scene, but at times that scene seems to be played off rather quickly, and without the right inflections, eye contact, etc, we really don't get a sense that these are two people falling in love with each other. Frankly of all the times I've seen it, I've only sensed that connection twice, between Idina and Adam (London) and Kristy and Kristopher (Chicago), all the other times, it didn't really seem to work properly, and the whole subplot of their unspoken affection, until "As Long As You're Mine" and the following "Catfight" seems to fall flat in a way due to the lack of direct emphasis on the love affair in Act 1. There needs to be a song, or at least something to give a slightly enriched sense of their affection in Act 1. Perhaps even if Fiyero hugged Elphaba when he gives her the flowers just before "One Short Day"? There needs to be something in that act to indicate a growing love between them. It was so strong, with such beautiful description of their relationship in the book, particularly the more sensual and sexual scenes between them, and the introspective connection between the two characters. I wish more of that could have been brought to the stage. Perhaps that comes from a thought, to me, that the show is a bit too "kid-ified" and lost a bit of depth in the translation? Although, let me make it clear, regardless I love Wicked, book, stage, whatever!
