If Johnny Depp portrayed Jesus...and if Tim Burton directedDear Jesus Christ Superstar Fans,
I've read certain YouTube comments which state the opinion that Ted Neeley was one super sexy Jesus. I personally find Neeley to be only slightly sexy; he doesn't look physically tough enough for me to find him to be super sexy. I guess that I'm used to super muscular actors.
I'm curious to know what you would think if Johnny Depp starred in a new, movie version of Jesus Christ Superstar? Would you find Depp to be sooo sexy that you'd convert? LOL!
What would you think if Tim Burton directed a new movie version of Jesus Christ Superstar (with Depp portraying Jesus)? I personally don't know if Burton's Goth style would go so well with the story of JCS; I can just see Jesus in white, and everyone else looking slightly Goth. That could be really weird.
Thanks in advance for your replies.

If Johnny Depp played Jesus, he would look deformed in some way, as he always does. I don't know how he got this reputation for being sexy, because his face is seriously upsetting.
Even at 64, Ted could kick his ass.
If Tim Burton directed JCS, it would suck beyond belief but still be better than the 2000 version.

Well, Ted Neely's got a wall-eye.

I don't think JCS can be done well on film. And I don't think Ted Neely is all that, although in his prime, he wasn't too hard on the eyes.
Johnny Depp almost made me convert to being an eyeliner-wearing pirate, so I suppose converting me to anything else is a strong possibility. I so don't see him as a Jesus-type, but I pretty much adore looking at him anytime.

I think Johnny Depp either looks drugged out or like a hobo. I dont understand why people think he is hot because I find him creepy.

I would think something unsuitable to post. After seeing Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean, casting him as Jesus would be slightly... wrong. I mean, I would expect him to break out in, "Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me!" at random intervals.
Okay, maybe it wouldn't be that bad, but I'd still have some very deep reservations. I couldn't take him seriously. Oh, and he's not hot. I find him repulsive. Sue me.

No. Depp is a character actor, not Jesus. Plus, he's got to be a baritone.

Depp could play a Priest, Herod or Pilate. Not Jesus.

Depp would make a better Judas I think.
I'd rather see some real musical theatre stars in movie versions of musicals than a load of big names with lots of clever cuts and sound engineering to shore up the dodgy singing and dancing.
It's a shame there aren't many real 'musical' movie stars any more, like Gene Kelly or Fred Astaire. I mean I can't picture either of those as JC ether, but you know what I mean!

I can see Tim Burton doing a mean JCS. And I can also see him casting Johnny Depp out of nepotism. But I'd much rather he did it with people who had the talent.

I had no idea that Tim Burton and Johnny Depp were family! How are they related to each other?

If Johnny Depp played jesus and Tim Burton directed we'd get one screwed up film, please stop suggesting this. Tim is wrong for Superstar and Johnny would never be able to sing Jesus.

Well, more like professional nepotism...note how many times they've worked together for no apparent reason during their career. Plus, well, the rumors that, well, you know...Helena's not Tim's only partner.

That's like saying Glenn Carter and Kieth Burns are twins.

You're making an analogy that has no correlation whatsoever. If you can't tell that Johnny Depp and Tim Burton are up each other's ass to the hilt, you're blind.

you know someone can easily post a topic for every single musical on this site saying
"Johnny Depp to star and Tim burton to direct"
JCS Burton style.... nahhh.

I agree with you about Tim Burton style JCS. I just can't see it working.

It's just not Tim or Johnny's thing...Sweeney Todd, on the other hand, fits them both to a tee (hence why they signed on to do it). But then again, If Willem Dafoe can play Jesus...
Personally, I think Johnny would make a better Judas or Pilate or even Herod, characters he could either put depth into (Judas, Pilate) or just have fun with(Herod).

a) I don't care
b) Why should you care?
c) I am legally blind (not that that has to do with anything...)

did anyone ever hear drew sarich play judas or jesus!
ahh now if he did movies... THAT would be incredible.

Drew Sarich should never go near musical theater again for as long as he lives. Period. End of report.

I enjoyed Sarich as Judas. I've only heard his "Gethsemane" and I didn't enjoy that.
I like his Valjean in Les Mis, but he seems too young to play the part at this point in his carreer. He is good in Les Mis all around, though.
Gibby doesn't like Sarich. That's perfectly fine.
Andy.

Why not? He certainly looks the part as Western society sees it, which I would never say for Johnny Depp.
