Idina's New CD

Idina Menzel premieres “Defying Gravity” Dance Remix at Palm Springs’ White Party

Our original Elphaba, Tony Award-winner Idina Menzel, has been hard at work completing her forthcoming studio album. One of the first songs she recorded is an incredible new version of "Defying Gravity". Head to iTunes and be among the first to hear her new music!

Go to www.idinamenzel.com to hear it. The remix that we were tlkaing about a couple weeks ago is of this version. She's turned it into a "pop" song, not a musical song.

I really like the remix. Very Happy It's pretty. ( Could be a 'credits version' of the song if they ever did the movie...haha. Laughing )
wicked_boy

That would be cool as a "credits" song. Or maybe they cuold use as the cast take there bows on Broadway.
music is my life!!!

i love it! maybe this could be for an encore but i really love the idea for credits!
actor

I love this version.

Here is a youtube clip of it for anyone who wants to hear it:

And if anyone wants to hear the remix of the remix go on the Defying Gravity Remix page and you can find the link there. I can't be bothered to get it off youtube.
luckystar_30

When is this cd coming out? anyone know?
wicked_boy

You can buy the song of iTunes, but I think the CD only has that song on, I'm not too sure.
luckystar_30

Right, but I thought she was working on a whole new cd where that song was going to be on it? I'm confused!! ha
pish123c

*sigh*

it's pretty and all, but it really just proves how versatile she is. not very.

she can't break away from her elphaba. she was the original on b-way, and she barely got an audience for any other of her shows (well with the exception of RENT but that was obviously pre Wicked) like "See What I Wanna See" or "The Wild Party"

So after those failures, she was the original Elphie in London.
Now she's going back to the saaaaaame old song for the saaaame old character.

Give us something fresh to show us how talented you REALLY are Idina!
wicked_boy

She said she wants to move away from musical theatre and have a pop CD, so she turned Defying Gravity into a "pop" song. She will always be known as Elphie.
pish123c

Yeah I know, but come on. She could move away from the character a little bit. After sooo many renditions of it by tons of people, this just takes all meaning from it and turns it into another karaoke track!

there was a time when that song gave me chills...now it just gives me a headache at how overplayed it is.
wicked_boy

There are some versions of this song that still awes me, others are just like a normal redo of it.
what_the_heck013

I think she should have turned it into a gangsturr rap song.

Defying Gravity Remix

Wow...that was...weird, yet likeable (the songs you have been typing)

Can't say how I feel about the remix, the original cast recording still gives me chills, the new version does it. But I was thinking it'd be good for a liturgical dance at church or school or something.
wicked_boy

I think a gospel verison of Defying Gravity would be amazing.
Dean101

I liked it. (the song in Idina's album). But still, I'm kinda tired of the 9,000,000 versions of Defying Gravity, I would like to hear some new versions of songs like Popular, TWAI, and any other song...
wicked_boy

Yeah, an aritist should do The Wizard and I. On iTunes loads of people have done terrible verisons of Defying Gravity. They sound aweful!
qpidsangel

remix=ewwwwwwww

It's really really bad, kind of like Anthony Rapp's pop CD. She can't sing pop music, she can't get the musical theatre voice out of her singing. The dance remix seems pretty good though.
