What Is This Feeling?

I wish I saw Cats...

I love CATS! I wish it didn't go off Broadway and The West End. I own the filmed stage version, and I love it so! But now, I'll never be able to see it live! *Sigh* I missed out. It's very unfortunate. I think it's one of the best shows ever written by a human being, lol. Sorry, for the random thread. I just wish I had some opportunity to see Cats live! *Sigh* It sucks. The show *does* tour. I've seen it twice. It's coming to a city an hour away from mine this month.

Oh how nice. Maybe I can see it live there. *crosses fingers* Philadelphia is the closest to me. I just have to convince my CATS hating family to perhaps consider going. I'm to young to drive, and I cannot work yet, so the odds are against me! But I pray to God I see it live on stage, someday. Hopefully soon! Very Happy

I really hope you get to see it on tour! You'll have a blast...there's nothing like seeing cats for the first time! Razz

I bet!!! The music is sooooo so sooo amazing! I own the filmed stage version, is that the same as the live production, similar, or is it completely different?

It's very similar. The only differences are that there are parts of some songs cut out (including an entire number called "Growltiger's Last Stand" that comes after "Gus: The Theater Cat") and that you can watch the entire stage the whole time, instead of having close-ups sometimes and stuff.

Depending on where you live, the costumes may also look different.

Wow. But like every performance of Cats, including the productions on tour, they all have the same special effects right? I mean, Grizabella still gets transported into the heavyside Lair just as amazingly and hitech as in the filmed stage version and Broadway and The West End right? Or is it a bit less overdone because it's on tour?

Grizabella always goes to the Heavyside, but she has different modes of transportation, depending on what production you see. Sometimes she goes in that staircase from the movie, sometimes an elevator like contraption, and once my friend reported seeing Grizabella ride to the Heavyside in a mechanical swan. I can't remember what they did in Philly when I saw it, but it was good.
And yes, the costumes do look really different, similar to the B-way costumes. You won't recognize the characters unless you study the B-way pictures in depth.
Also, the stage differs from the movie because you don't get to see as much. You're eyes, especially the first time, will probably be focused on the main action, so you'll miss all of the cute and cool stuff that happens behind the main stuff, like Etcetera's cute faces, or the kittens yanking the adult's tails. And also, the characters all come back for curtain calls after the end, so you'll see Grizabella come back down from the Heavyside.

I went to see CATS at the Palace Theatre in Columbus, Ohio a couple of years ago. I had a wonderful time.

What you could do, is look up reviews and other information.
That's what I did to see if there were any live versions after seeing the video.
Google it, there should be something out there. Cool

Don't expect the voices to be exactly the same as in the video.
There may or may not be cats running out into the audience during the overture, it depends on the theater and the company.

Finally, if you want to go, save up unless your parents are willing to pay.
This includes for transport also unless it's nearby where you live.
You can't work: allowance. babysit. ask you're parents for jobs to do in exchange for money. But save. I saved up $40.00 living off of $7.00 a week, and it was well worth it- Cats t-shirt and program- which I got signed by every single cast member, which was my reason for buying it in the first place. Cool

One more little note: Don't expect the orchestra to be as big as it is in the movie. The music might also go a little bit faster or slower than the movie.

Good luck

One more little thing.

My family hates Cats too, but my sister likes it ok.
My parents however....
My dad didn't really pay attention, my mom sat through it,
and got mad at me for "wasting my money" on the shirt and program.
This was my first time seeing it, and they showed no enthusiasm whatsoever.

I recommend going with friends or someone else who doesn't mind taking you, go with a friend and their parent possibly, if they'll go.

And this reminds me.... the program that I bought (the one I got signed,)
dissappeared. I'm under the impression one of my parents moved it somewhere by accident or it's buried somewhere in my house. If you get one, take care of it. I feel ready to tear my house apart looking for it, but it's late and I have homework.....

O thank u everyone for all the good advice, it's like u really care. I swear, CATS fans are some of the sweetest people in the world! But yeh, I'm trying to go see it still, but alas, no luck Crying or Very sad

Haha, don't let it get ya down. Just keep an eye out.
I didn't discover Cats untill it had already gone by my city-
and in a theater right across from my school!!

I missed it because I didn't know it was there. It didn't come back untill around 4 years later, which was the first time I saw it back in June. Smile It was at a different theater, but that was fine with me...

But ya know what made me angry? It turned out people at my old school (the one by the theater Cats came too four years ago) were in a theater program to see CATS for FREE- ABOUT 4 NIGHTS IN A ROW. AND THEY HATED IT.
I was furious when I found out. I'm like, what the crap, I wait four years to see this ONCE and they see it FREE for FOUR NIGHTS IN A ROW- and they don't even like it!!! Grrrrrrrr!!!!!

Sorry for my little rant. Evil or Very Mad
Cool Good luck,
Gwen
