Baker

I wish I had a child...

I'm auditioning for the Baker and I already know I have to sing It Takes Two for the auditions (the director gives us the song to sing, it's really annoying).

But lately our director has been rather blunt about things. Meaning, one girl told her she wants to be Little Red and the director said, "Oh yes, you would be perfect for that!" And she basically asked my sister to audition for Cinderella or the Witch.

But there's a possibility that I'll miss auditions because of a trip to Africa. So I might have to do my audition at a different time, which is no big deal. When I explained this to her, she asked which part I was auditioning for and I said the Baker. And she was dead silent.

So this lack of encouragement basically makes me even more determined to get the part. I really want this part, I really think I'm the only guy in the school who could do it right. So... any tips about what to do with this song to make them go "...Yeah, he's the Baker."
I ain't down yet!

what can you do but nail it? these types of directors suck. so just do your best, there's not much else you can do....

1. Figure out who she has precast as the Baker
2. Figure out what he has that you don't.
3. Now figure out what you have that he doesn't. Multiply this by 100.

Divide this by the cosine of e squared minus two plus theta over 16. The answer is C.

Rolling Eyes Hehe... oh, finals weekend.

Just ignore everyone else and do your own thing with it. Do what you think is right and how you would play the baker, bringing something that nobody else has thought of and that is uniquely you will set you apart from the crowd. you also have to remember sometimes other people just suit the role better. Sometimes it isn't about the audition just if the director can see you as that role which really sucks but sometimes you just gotta let this one slide and wait for next time

Just remember, even if you don't get the Baker, that kind of director is unprofessional and you were probably too good to be in one of her shows anyways - you're just gracing her with your presence as another character because you're feeling giving today. But not giving enough to waste your talent on a show like that.

Sorry. I know that may not make it better.. but it's fun to hate on people sometimes. Try it. Very Happy

We hate on her a lot already. =P

Thanks for the most part to everyone... If I knew who she had precast as the Baker, I wouldn't be as panicked, but it's confusing me because I really don't know who it could be besides myself.

We'll see what happens. We're supposed to be getting information and such this week and then auditions will be after break.

So, found out some more things today.

1.) Got the music for the auditions. I have to sing No More. Which, although it's not my favorite song, I would rather audition with this than It Takes Two because it definitely takes some more acting skill.

2.) We'll be doing cold readings. Usually we have the bit of script we'll be reading in advance so we can prepare. But I'm really not worried about it, I could probably perform any scene she chose memorized anyway, and it's not like I'm new to cold readings.

3.) There is now one other guy auditioning for the Baker. He was set on Cinderella's Prince for a while, but now apparently he's auditioning for Jack and the Baker. And - well - let's put it this way. He's a bass. A very bad bass. But the director likes him, for reasons unknown. So... I don't know. On the one hand, I'm not panicked, but still a little worried.
The Drama Queen

You're freaking yourself out too much.
You know you can do this role, and you know you're 100x better then the bass mentioned above.
Has anyone else at our school played leads at the Ren? Has anyone else gotten leads in every show they tried out for so far at our school? Has anyone else (besides me) from our school performed on stage in an Off-Broadway theatre????? Nope, don't think so.
You can do this- just trust yourself, ok??

^ (She's my sister. She has to say that stuff.)
SillyGirl3

So you have to sing 'No More'??? OMG, make the director want to cry. Especially at the part after the Mysterious man leaves!!!! Our Baker makes everyone cry every time (and both of our directors LOVE it!!!!)

Our show got changed to Guys and Dolls, and I'll be playing Sky.

Thanks for the help.

I can't see a true bass as the Baker. Maybe she likes him because he's a good actor...? I like a Rapunzel's Prince who can sing and a Cinderella's Prince who can act, although sounding like an off-key piano is never good.
