I MET LUCY SIMON!

I was at a local production of the show in San Francisco that The Lamplighters Music Theater was doing (this company normally does works by Gilbert and Sullivan but every year they do one non-G&S show and THIS was the one. I hadn't seen the show since it came to SF about 15 years ago w/ Lydia Ooghie as Mary and we liked that performance so much we saw it TWICE. it was a thrill to meet Lucy. I bought a signed copy of the CD of the Broadway soundtrack. i just wish our tickets had been for the Opening night on Friday as there was a Q&A w/ Lucy after the show.

You know, I was on the fence about seeing this production. Maybe I'll try to catch it in Walnut Creek.

Cast recording.

You met her? If anyone else meets her, beg her to do another beautiful show.

I read in the program she's written a musical based on the movie Dr. Zivago she's now looking for a theater for it.

Kind of O/T, but I just think it's interesting that there have been many great female lyricists on Broadway (Betty Comden, Carolyn Leigh, Dorothy Fields, Lynn Ahrens, etc.) but only a few great female composers (Lucy Simon and Mary Rodgers are the main ones I can think of). Does anyone have any theories about why this is? I'd love to hear people's opinions on this.

Also, can anyone else think of a successful Broadway musical other than TSG whose composer, lyricist, and bookwriter were all female? I can't.

I just think that's pretty fascinating.
