A while back I posted a few audio clips from our Aus production of Rent that we did last year. A few people asked if I had any video clips I could post, so....

But a couple of points: Yes, I KNOW the cast looks nothing like the Broadway stereotypes. This is amateur theatre. The people cast were cast because they were the best people available for the roles, not because they looked like the Broadway cast.

And, yes, I KNOW that the staging is different to the Broadway production. This show was staged by people who'd never seen the Broadway production, so felt free to interpret the staging as they wished (not that I agreed with all their decisions)

I know that all sounds a little defensive, but I copped some flack earlier elsewhere from a few people who couldn't handle the fact that we didn't stage an exact clone of the Braodway production.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy these clips on their own merit. I'll only be leaving them up for a few days.

I like it. The staging is different, yes, but stil the nice minimalist set that we all love with the OBC. I like that it's a white Collins - see, i could do it, hehe.

Mark is a cutie.

Too much lights in "What You Own", for my taste. I couldnt get "I'll Cover You Reprise" to play, but oh well - later, maybe.

All-in-all, Im sure it's a great produciton.

I liked Mark in What You Own. Not too sure about Roger, though.

For an amatuer production, it sure looks good.

Oh, well, I like the staging and I think the cast look very good! I especially liked the guy playing Collins, I thought he was really good! They all were actually. Kudos! I adore amatuer productions

Roger wasn't as 'grunge rocker' as I'm used to, but nonetheless, I really enjoyed it! Great job.

I know they aren't really released through MTI, so was it a special arrangement?

Don't know why you fear criticism Ozhair. Being on-stage you should be used to it as you get immediate critical response.

I like them but the link for "I'll Cover Reprise" doesn't have the video.

One thing I've noticed about Aussie performances, they have sort of a "laid-back" feel. Like you guys are in no particular hurry. American performances of RENT seem to be a bit more frenetic.

One question. What's with the hand gesture when talking about prairie dogs?

Your Tom Collins seems right as does your Angel. But Mark and Roger, well, they don't fit our vision but it still works. All the Rogers I've seen have a huge crop of hair and look sort of like a rockstar. Your Roger looks like an unapproachable biker. Mark Cohen, in my opinion, should have a nerdy yet cool look. Your Mark lacks the nerd touch and the scarf seems to clash with the rest of the clothes. But both sing well.

But none of the complaints bring the show down. Over all, it looks good.

Hate to sound greedy, but do you have a "RENT" clip?
