That was a great newsclip, VTWC. I must agree with you, if a play has to surpass CATS, I'm glad it's POTO. They're both my favourite musicals by far.
I think that this means that CATS will have to have a revial and reclaim their title, what do you think

Yup, that would be Michael Gruber. The cast from that video clip was the record-breaking cast from 1997.

Heh...I didn't find out...until yesterday. At a Lion King forum I frequent. Someone had a picture of the Broadway cast of Phantom' and they were holding up the 'longest running musical' banner...and it took a moment for it to sink in. ^^; Actually, that's why I came back here...to see if it was true.
I'm disappointed, that's for sure. I wouldn't be so downhearted about it if that wasn't the only title people knew it from. Well, whenever I hear Cats mentioned on television and elsewhere, it's always "Cats, Broadway's longest running musical...". Besides Memory, that's the only thing people seem to connect with it. Apart from the obvious people-dressing-up-like-kitties-and-dancing thing. Can't forget that. Aw well, if PotO ran on this long, it has to be deserved. Congrats to the casts of the show and everyone that made it possible. |
