I'm a Spoiled Brat

So I'm going to NY to see the Les Mis revival and was intending to just see that since I'm sort of broke right now. My friend wanted to see Phantom, as he has never seen it. I like the show (have seen it 32 times, lol) and agreed since it's on him, hehe.

I am EXTREMELY picky about seating locations. I've never sat farther than the 8th row orchestra in all 40+ shows I've seen in my lifetime (well, with the exception of a couple, but those tix I won from contests so I had no choice).

We're sitting row I, center orchestra, seats 113 and 114. 10 rows from the stage.

I like to be as close as possible and am not too thrilled. I just checked Telecharge to see what else they had and they just released some 4th row, center orchestra seast! Argh! d'oh! My friend should've waited a little longer! lol.

Are the seats we got good? Are they far enough that you feel detached from the show? Can one see facial expressions clearly? I know 10th row isn't BAD, but I guess I'm more concerned with that particular theatre layout. I know some theatres have rows that are spaced farther apart and others are more packed in. For example, sitting 5th row at the Pantages in L.A. is really like sitting 10th row at a modern theatre. The Pantages has a huge gap between the first row and orchestra pit and the pit itself is quite big.

I'm sorry, I'm just mega picky about these things. Wahhhh.

I've seen it about twenty times and from about every major vantage point but the boxes (I know the view from them isn't great, but I want to for the heck of it sometime.)

I've done front row (fine until Hugh spit right in my eye), last row of the rear mezz...everything in between.

The only time I've disliked my seats was my second performance - I was in Row R orchestra. Wonderful show that night, but the overhang of the mezzanine ruined a lot of it.

I definitely wouldn't mind your seats. You're still ahead of the mezzanine...you should be fine aside from personal preference issues.

wow. I've only able to sit in the orchestra once in my life (I could never afford to do it that much. i can barely afford the nosebleed seats) but anyways the one time i was ever in the orchestra was for phantom in london and i was 6 rows from the front and it was amazing. I would kill for 10th row seats and i think you will be fine. especially if you've seen the show so many times i wouldn't worry about it. I've never seen the phantom on broadway so I don't know the layout of the theatre but i don't think it's that unusual or anything. But I'm just wondering, how do you afford to get tickets in the orchestra every time? Around here at least they're ridiculously expensive

I don't know the size and layout out of the London theatre, but...based on what I've read at a few "phan" forums, there is some difference.

For anyone not familiar with the Majestic, here's a bit of an interactive seating chart that gives a little perspective.

As for the cost, I use discount ticket sites - I got my front row seats through BroadwayBox.com. And I budget for it.

You have good seats, don't worry. The first time I saw Phantom, my seats were the 4th from last. Not great, but I was young. You could see the actors bodies, but not their facial expressions. 2nd time I saw it, I sat in the 3rd row. Right infront of the orchestra. GREAT seats. I was able to catch everything that was happening onstage. The 10th seats are still pretty good seats, though. You'll be able to see their faces Smile.

One of my best friends has orchestra seats to the same production of Phantom I saw...

Same here.

They have occasionally. The thing is, when tours stop here for 2 weeks, 2 months or so at a time, there is much more demand than for something that's an open run on Broadway, so there's not as much need to entice people to go.

There's a great service called Gold Star Events -- you rarely ever find stuff on there for anything playing in the major houses in San Francisco, but a great deal of regional and community theatre productions show up on there. I highly recommend it.

Thank you all for your replies and info.

I felt very silly creating this thread, but after seeing it on the 20th, I must say I was disappointed with my seat.

Again, not that they were bad. In fact, we were dead center and had full view of the stage. We were even slighly elevated and were able to see the stage floor clearly.

But it was a bit "far," I guess. Well, to me, anyway.

The sound was low and the orchestra wasn't as audible as when I've sat much closer. The expressions were not as easy to see, as well.

I think 98% of people out there would've loved my seat though. I just like to be like, right there smack in front. I had 2nd row center seats for Les Mis and it was absolutely incredible. Being just several rows closer really does make a huge difference.

I enjoyed Phantom though. But I think it may just be the last time I see it.

Glad you enjoyed it! Mr. Green
