I know, I know!!! but I really need a monologue...

I've tried. really I have, and cannot seem to find a monologue for me. I've looked at threads, and am now set to perform the monologue, but I need an actual piece and done a search and googled and libraried and all...but my library has NO scripts, or scores, or monologue books etc. I've found a monologue from Hugo's book Les Miserables, when Fantine gets arrested, so that's a resort I can use a guess. Anyway, now i've finished defending myself, I'll tell you my story.

For my year 10 Drama class next term, we have to do a monologue. Last term we did ensemble work, so now it's solo performance, which is exciting for me.

The monologue has to go for about 5mins, but can vary according to the piece (ie Shakespearian can go for only 2/3mins as they are harder). It can be from anything so long as it isn't poetry.

I WOULD LIKE to have an active monologue, with a strong character, preferably from a fairly easy-to-get-hold-of play. I was thinking a Shakespeare monologue but not sure as I'm not very practised in that area. I'm more a dramatic actress, so probably would prefer a dramatic piece. I'm 14, a female, brown hair, brown eyes (see avatar) about 170cm tall

THIS IS NOT FOR AN AUDITION. Therefore, I can do overdone pieces and get away with it, as none of the dimwits in my Drama class will have ever read a play (ah, the joys of a country school)

I have about a week and a half, until we need to choose one, but I'm on school break now so would really like to do some preparation prior to returning to school.

Thanks for your help!

Well then it sounds like the famous Shakespeare women posing as men would suit you very well:

Portia in The Merchant of Venice
Rosalind in As You Like It
