I just saw this show

The book for this show is brilliant. Hate the music besides "Do You Love Me?" I dislike where the first act ends, I think it should end after the dream sequence before Golde gives her opinion... That's just me.

Where did the first act end when you saw it? It's usually after the wedding, which I think is a great spot. Especially because "Sunrise, Sunset" is an AMAZING song and depending on the production, the wedding dance can be potentially amazing.

First off let me say, the production was crappy, so that may have been it. It did end after the wedding, to me it just felt that there wasn't enough "incentive" to come back for the second act. Not a big enough climax.

In the script from MTI, and the version I just did, Act I ended right after the pogrom. So, 'Sunrise, Sunset' was done, the wedding dance, etc. etc. Then there was the whole argument between everyone (starting with Lazar and Tevye), then Perchik breaks it up by dancing with Hodel, other couples start dancing, and then the Russians come in and open up a can of whoop ass on the place.

It ended really depressingly, I always thought. With our staging, Motel carried the limp Perchik offstage, followed by Tzeitl and Hodel, weeping. Golde had the two little girls clutched to her bosom and I (Chava) was on my hands and knees picking up the wedding candlesticks. Then Fyedka walks by and I look at him all sad like, "WTF?!". The lights went down on a freeze of me looking pissed/sad/confused, Golde hugging the girls, and Tevye with his arms raised to God like, "WTF?!"

I think that's a huge incentive for the audience to come back.

Fyedka in the pogrom scene? That's a first, I've never seen that done. One would think he'd try to call off the rampage short of total devastation (in the movie, the Constable did that), much the way he called off Sasha and the others who accosted Chava in Motel's tailor shop (stage) or on a road (movie).

Fyekda wasn't IN the pogrom. After the constable finally yelled, "Enough, men!" and they all dispersed, only the family was left onstage. Then, as we were cleaning, Fyedka walked by and stared longingly at me. I mean, who wouldn't? hahaha.

but i almost laughed the last night because when tevye was doing his freeze, i seriously thought of him going, "WTF?!"
