I hate the waitingSo, I auditioned for a production of Jekyll and Hyde. So far, I have been asked by the director to choreograph the show as well as be in it . . . .very cool. Haven't seen a cast list yet, and my first dance rehearsal for Bring On The Men is a week from Wednesday. So, do I continue to hold out hope that I could get the part of Lucy, or resign myself to just choreographing the show. I know that the director doesn't have a Jekyll, Stride, Bishop, Proops/Spyder yet cast. So should I hold out any hope? Or is it asking too much to be doubly blessed.
My audition was as flawless as I can be. I so nailed my song. But, directors here have a tendency to cast their friends before anyone else. GAAAAHHHHH!

I hate the waiting, too. Which is why I appreciate "let down" emails, or emails that tell you thanks but no thanks.
Best of luck though! I hope it happens for you eventually! And try tape a little of your show so that we can see your brilliant choreography! I love seeing mdn members' work!

It's entirely possible that your director is waiting to make final decisions on the lead women until he knows who his leading men are. So I wouldn't say you are completely out of the running yet. It's frustrating, and hopefully you'll have a complete cast list by the time you start choreography.

I agree. Since theaters are usually short on men and long on women, they have to cast the women based on the men. For example, you can't decide between casting the 15 or the 30 year old Tzeitel until you know how old your Motel is. And the directors are gonna have a lot of Tzeitel options and few Motel options!

Well, I just spoke with the director, and even though he has no men cast for Jekyll, Stride, Proops/Spyder, or the Bishop, he cast a girl he knows as Lucy. She is a good singer, and she had played Emma previously for this theatre. It just irks me that he gave it to her because she's a lyrical soprano, and can't hit any of the low notes in Someone Like You.
The director (bless his pointed head) has so graciously cast me as one of the whores/dancers at the Red Rat (color me soooo surprised).
The only thing that gave me a glimmer of hope was that he said "We're going with _____ for now as Lucy", and I have no idea what he meant by that. I can't hold out forever and hope that he gives it to me, because I promised my husband that if I got cast as a dancer, I would bow out of performing and just do the choreography. The reason for this is that our nephew is getting married the same weekend we open.
Theatre directors; can't live with them; can't kill them and call it justifiable homicide.

Somewhat good news: I think I might be the understudy for Lucy. Cross fingers!
