I got A. L. Webber's autograph! + Evita London trip report.

Hi

I have just seen the first preview of Evita in London at the Adelphi Theatre. I was on the first row of the stalls, these seats were on a discount because of a restricted view. I do not mind that but if you want to go, try to get in the middle.

First, Elena Roger as Eva. I did really like her. She was all energy and when it came to the singing she could really belt it out. She danced well, looked good and sang Don't cry for me Argentina in a compleatly different way to what Elaine Paige did. In my un-educated view she Elena sang it more slowly. My only complaint, that in this show the dialog is sung through and sometimes when Elena was talking I found it difficult to hear clearly. this may be because I was close to the speakers, however when she sang she really sang.

Philip Quast as Peron I think played it well and did not try to make Peron seem more important than Evita. However, I would have like to have heared his voice a little deeper.

Matt Rawle as Che again very well sung and acted but again I would like a deeper, stronger voice.

I keep saying this because Elena has an accent but all the other actors are English and seem to talk and sing without an accent. It just seems a bit strange to me, I mean Elena's understudy is English!

First act songs that to me were the best

On this night of a thousand stars

Goodnight and thank you

Charity concert

Another suit case in another hall sung by Lorna Want, wonderful a pity she has only one song to her self.

A new Argentina left me with goosebumps, I could not get that song out of my head on they way home.

Second act,

Don't cry for me Argentina what can I say

And the money kept rolling in

I just had to mention Emma Harris, ex London Victoria, I have not heard of her in a while, she was in the chorus and danced beutifully. I would have liked to have seen a more Latin touch with the dancing.

I, and it seemed everyone else loved it great applause from the audence.

And at long last I finally got A.L. Webbers autograph!

I waited for over three hours at the stage door and he turns up in a taxi with 45 min to go before the show and he is taliking to someone and I cannot get a word in.

During the interval I spotted him going into the bar and I was ten feet behind him AND I LOST HIM! -he moves fast for an older guy.

However, I stood at the front of the stalls and watched every one coming back, I was standing where they sell the ice creams and people kept asking me for two strawberries and and a chocolate!

I saw him sit down in the stalls and I asked him Sir Webber may I have and autograph. He was plainly not happy about this and he did tell me 'actually I am working here tonight', but he was polite and at last I did get my autograph. I must admit his autograph is not the most neatest one I have ever had, imagen a drunk spider with only four legs walking acroos the page.

Mind you my autograph is not exactly up to scratch either!

All in all a good night, with a good show and I await my autograph request from the new Uk tour and I plan to get Sinitta Renet's autograph on Sunday-she was a London chorus cat in 1983. Applause
