I Don't Know About This Show. Help!!!

Okay. So I plan on auditioning for this show in about 3 weeks. The cast will consist of 12-17 year olds and I need help with pretty much everything. I have NEVER seen this show. I know it takes place on a cruise ship, but thats about it. What style is the music?? I am a tenor are there any good roles for tenors??? And lastly, what do you think about it??

Wish me luck on my audition!

Anything Goes is a rather brilliant show written in the 1930s by the amazing Cole Porter. It is the style of his day.

Would you happen to know which version you're doing...there have been re-writes of it.

yess!!! my director said something about the 1987 version! i had no clue what he meant until now.

Excellent! That's the best version! Here's the link the the royalty company's page on it:

There is a cast recording of this available with Patti LuPone in the leading female role. It is quite easily obtained...if you can't find it amazon will have it.

it's a fantastic show! I promise you''l love it.

For tenors, there's Billy (the male lead, romantic), Moonface Martin (a gangster who is a stowaway on the ship), Lord Evelyn Oakleigh (British guy, HILARIOUS part) and then there is Elisha Whitney who only has one very short song. Ours was in a character voice.

Hope that helps!
Salome

only billy and lord evelyn are tenors.

I would say that Moonface is definitely a tenor, moreso than Evelyn. In my school's production of this show, Evelyn was played by a guy who was a very low bass... He wouldn't have been able to sing it if Evelyn were a tenor.

Ericpaul0619, you should look at this website:

Stageagent isn't always the most reliable source, but it can help to give you a good general idea of the shows and the main roles. Also, just try Googling the show title for a synopsis and descriptions. To get a feel for the style of music, you could try listening to the sample clips on Amazon.

It is an excellent show, and you will definitely have fun with it, even if you don't get the role you want. Good luck with the audition! Very Happy

No character sings particularly low and therefore they're probably manageable by tenors. I agree that Moon is definitely a tenor.

We had a really low bass for Evelyn as well and we had to transpose the music down because it was too high.

Stage Agent doesn't show the 1987 character list as it has Bonnie instead of Erma.
norayouadora

Yes, but it gives a good general idea about the other characters... And the only difference between Bonnie and Erma is that they sing different songs.
