I desperately need monologue help!!!

Hey everyone!

So, in case anyone saw, which is probably unlikely, I posted a thread in the Gypsy forum earlier today about this issue.

I am auditionig to enroll in a performing arts school and I need a monologue to read which needs to be age/gender/type appropriate and not too overused

So far, I have been...uh...well, completely unsuccessful in fiding one that suits my needs. Rolling Eyes

Any ideas?
I'm 15 by the way (I probably shouldv'e mentioned that earlier)

Please and thank you thank you thank you

To find the best monologues, it helps to read a lot of plays. Do you have time before this audition, or is it really soon?

yeah, it's really soon.
I've been trying to read alot of plays to find monologues, but the internet is my main resource and there are not many avaliable online (that I could find)

How long does the monologue have to be? And what is your "type"? Would you prefer dramatic or comedic? Contemporary or classical?

The problem with Internet monologues, I find, is that, firstly, they're completely detached from the play they're from, and it's vital to read the whole play before performing a monologue so you can fully understand the character's motivations and circumstances. Secondly, anyone can post something on the Internet and call it a monologue, and it's kind of annoying weeding through those to get to the usable stuff.

It's also pretty difficult to suggest individual monologues as there are simply so many out there. I did a huge monologue search last year over about six months to find one for my drama exams and believe me, I didn't even come close to scratching the surface of all the plays out there. If I were you, I'd start reading plays now and making a note of any monologues that you like. However, if your audition is really soon, then clearly, this isn't really an option.

From my aforementioned monologue search, however, I may have something in my file that might suit you -- but some clearer guidelines would be a big help Smile

ok, thanks so much!

My first choice would be a comedic monologue. It can't be too long, since they have a billion people auditioning, so I'd say under a minute. Then again, it can't be, you know, 2 seconds...also, i would prefer a monologue from a musical, but I think plays should be accepted as well.

Lastly, I can't do something that's overused (I think that's pretty obvious, though)

I agree completely about the internet. It can get very annoying.

Whatever monologue i do, i will definately be reading to play to fully comprehend that character's emotions, motives, etc.

Thank you for your help!
Very Happy
