I apologize in advance....

I just do not know what to sing.

I've spent over 10 hours searching and listening, and I cannot figure out what to sing for this audition.

Here's my background:
Female Soprano, 32 yrs old, blonde, trained voice, can belt. I like opera.

Trying out for ITW community theatre. Would like a solo since singing is my talent.

I'm not a great actress.

Thinking about Cinderella or Rapunzel.

UGH. I cannot decide what to sing... auditions are in 2 weeks. I've debated so many, but can't pick.

One I really like I read is NOT a good choice. The Girl in 14G, so then I looked at Dividing Day, but I'm not sure that that fits either of those roles...

I have dozens of things loaded on my ipod now, but none seem right.

I'm sorry to ask... but any ideas?
Kiwi

Maybe not Dividing Day, but something else from Light in the Piazza would work really well. In fact, I think that's what I'm using to audition for my school's production of ITW.
ConverseSneaker

You would probably be an amazing Rapunzel.

Songs:
Green Finch and Linnet Bird(probably overdone, but a good choice for R)
Soon(I'm not sure, but I believe a soprano sings it in A Little Night Music. Check into it!)
Light in the Piazza? Possibly. I'd stick to Sondheim for a Sondheim show though.

Hope that helped. Break a leg!
The Drama Queen

Just curious, where is your audition at? Because our community theatre is holding auditions for ITW in two weeks too and that would be really freaky if it was the same place haha.

My audition is in Minnesota
The Drama Queen

Ok its not lol. That would have been cool though.

The songs that ConverseSneaker mentioned are all really good. I'm planning on using Green Finch and Linnet Bird for my audition for Rapunzel, and I highly suggest it. It has the correct range for Rapunzel in it, shows off your technical skills, and has the potential to be acted very well as Rapunzel.[/quote]

SO,

here are my choices...

Vanilla Ice Cream
Green Finch and Linnet Bird
The Beauty Is
Unexpected Song

Keep in mind I have only two weeks to learn it. I know not any of them. Very Happy

*background
small community theatre
director comes from NY
It's my 3rd production with them...

I would say Green Finch is the best choice there. It may be overdone but it is GREAT for Rapunzel and even for Cinderella (with the whole bird theme in mind..)

I would also look at How Could I Ever Know from the Secret Garden- not a Sondheim, but a gorgeous song- I used it for my audition and got called back for Cinderella and Rapunzel and was cast as Rapunzel so..it worked for me.
ConverseSneaker

AAAHHH! Howcould I have forgotten How Could I Ever Know? That is lovely and wonderful and NOT overdone!
The Drama Queen

This is probably too late, but if you're still indecisive I definitely reccomend singing Green Finch. I used it for my audition for Rapunzel yesterday, and I was the only one called back for her part! Again this is probably late, but I thought I'd put in my additional $.02- if you know it, go for Green Finch! Smile
