Hurrah!

I successfully convinced my acting teacher (who directs shows I do every year) to do Into the Woods as her next summer musical. I'm uberexcited. Smile It's one of my favorite shows.

I really want to be the Baker's Wife, but am guessing (from the type of roles I tend to be casted in by her) that I'm more likely to get the Witch. Absolutely any role in the show would be awesome anyway.

Re: Hurrah!

Not sure of how the amount of material compare but I would think the coveted roles by women are the Baker's Wife or the Witch. Although, I think the Witch's role has the more difficult songs and is more of an acting challenge. After those two, I guess the next best would be Cinderella and then Little Red Ridinghood. LRR needs to have a good tantrum wail. I saw a university production of ITW where their LRR had a better crying tantrum than even Danielle Ferland's but the show as a whole pretty much sucked. Kind of amazing in a way because the theater was good, the set was good, decent orchestra, everyone knew their lines, ok singing, but they somehow failed to relate the meaning of the story. I had to watch the ITW video in order to "get it".

Congratulations! I've been trying to get my school to do it for years!

That's awesome! Congrats. I've been in the Jr. version of ItW twice, but so far no group around here has been ambitious enough to tackle the full length. A Sondheim show would be difficult for any school or community theater to attempt, let alone in a hick-town like mine. Rolling Eyes

For myself, I've always imagined that if ever I get an opportunity to be in this show, I'll want to play the Baker's Wife. But both the BW and the Witch are excellent roles, so I'll be excited for you regardless of what part you get. Lol. I know it's quite a while off, but let us know how it goes! Very Happy

Congrats! News just leaked out the our schools going to do it too, so I'm very excited also. I'm thinking I'll probably go for Little Red since I'm just a freshman this year. Good luck with you audition!

Why Little Red after Cinderella? She actually does have more lines than Cinderella but she has less songs, but then again she has a more complex character and in the songs she sings she has bigger parts than Cinderella, most of Cinderella's song lines are one liners... that's really cool that you get to do ITW, it's a rockin' play!

Baker's Wife is a much bigger acting challange than the Witch..in fact Baker's Wife is one of the toughest roles to get right in musical theatre history.

Because I'd be afraid that if I wasn't Little Red the person who was would completely screw it up... But I spoke to soon anyways, the directors changed their minds last minute and we're doing Wizard of Oz now.. Confused

That's too bad, but I asked why did you put in terms of role sizes Little Red after Cinderella...?
