How to start a community theatre?My friends and I want to start a community theatre in our town! But... we have no idea where to begin. I thought it would be best to start with a popular play to attract more people, so I was thinking A Christmas Carol. do we have time to pull this off before Christmas? And where does the money come from initially? Should we choose a play with no royalty fee? Help!!! |

when starting at heatre make sure the people in charge are very very well experienced in theatre..as in year of experience behind tham as directors,actors,administrators..etc. the biggest mistake people make whne starting a group is having that "lets put on a show attitude". | ||

Hmmm...I don't get it. I've had a decent amount of experience directing...nothing huge, but we're not expecting to start out huge anyways. Our biggest problem will be finding a technical director...and money of course. gulliver- Thanks! That's really helpful. I'm going to call around and try to find a space. |

what i mean is. are your directors skilled in casting properly. are they skilled in interpreting a script. blocking. do you all have a working knowledge of what the difference is between quality work and amatuerish work?
can your board of directors market your season properly.,can they get grants and angel mameberships. In order to start a theatre you need more than a love of the arts . |

I would say start off with a small lesser ambitious project. perhaps a caberet as oposed to a full on musical see how popular it is and work on from thee. rememeber to declair your income to teh tax office or they wil hammer you later on. Good luck! |
