How to Play the Narrator

I'm not a very strong singer, so I was cast at the Narrator in Into the Woods, Junior. However, I think that I am a fantastic actress, and take it is a bit of an insult to be cast as the Narrator. In the Junior version, there is virtually no creative freedom in playing the Narrator, as he's simply regurgitating lines with no hope for my own creative interpretation. Any ideas on how to make this role a little more creative or fun?
music is my life!!!

be very happy that you're on the outside of the story. even if you wish it was the full version, there's nothing you can do about it - sorry! make the most of all the opportunities for comic timing. don't walk about aimlessly - it does not look good!

have fun with it!

btw, don't take it as an insult, other than the witch you (i think) have the most lines in the show. take advantage of this. the director wouldn't have cast you if he didn't believe you could memorise lines!

Smile

Grin and bear it, girl, another chance will come up! Don't drop out - the narrator is a pretty fun part!

I just finished up Into the Woods two weeks ago. I got casted as Cinderella's Prince even though I really wanted the Baker. I was really mad that I didn't get the Baker, I was about to quit but I didn't. You can steal the show if you play the part right. Every character in the show has the opportunity to steal it.

Play it right, and you'll do great. Break a leg! (Have some fun :])
Baker

For a non-singer, the Narrator is a really good part. If you wanted a different part that didn't do (much) singing... there's only the Stepmother and the Stepsisters and Granny. You shouldn't be insulted at all.
