how to handle this?I'm having sort of a dilemma with one of the shows I'm in right now.
The auditions for this show were last month. My friend, who is 15, and I were planning on doing the show together until we found out that you had to be 17 to audition. We have both worked with the director (on a VERY dance heavy show in which I had a lead and my friend had a cameo). She is a great dancer who has been taking dance since she was 3 and I've never had formal dance training. However, I can move well, especially in tap.
Anyway, after the cast list went out the director told her that she could be in the show without an audition. I was cast in the ensemble and on the original cast list was listed as a one of the five featured tap dancers in one of the scenes. We received the cast list printed out at our last rehearsal with a few revisions (pretty much just a more detailed cast list ie. Singer #1 in this scene is whomever) and I was replaced...with my friend. Normally I would understand something like this, you know, like if a director decided that someone else would be better for a featured role and talked to you about it, saying that they have decided on someone else. But. I have a slight issue with this as my friend did not even audition for the show and he didn't even tell me he was switching us out.
I've emailed the director asking if it was a mistake or not but I am almost certain it was not. Help?

First . . . .huge, ginormous hug . . . that really sucks.
Second, the director may have mistakenly forgotten to list your name. It has happened to me before. Wait to hear from the director, as it could have been just an oversight.
Thirdly, I would really hate to think the director would cast your friend over you, when she didn't audition. But it happens a lot in this world. I have been to professional auditions, and when the cast list goes up, not one person that was at the auditions is on the list. THe cast is made up of people whom the director knows. It sucks, but it happens.
Wait and see . . . . then decide how to react.

thanks to both of you!
I think he is avoiding my email. I'm certain he got it because I just received an email about tomorrow's rehearsal. When (if, lol) he responds I will post here.

I can't give any words of advice, but I can give words of encouragement. Stick it out, even if the director DID cast your friend over you as a featured dancer. Maybe he'll be impressed with your dedication...? Urgh, I feel pretty mad for you, because that truly does suck.
