How to get a show made available for licensing...?

I dearly love a show, one that has been performed in the UK and the US, but although it was written by big-name people and had a big-name producer, it never went to West End or Broadway, and is not available for licensing, i.e., no school or theater could ever do it.
I've tried contacting the production company, but I only got a short answer from who knows who, saying it might be available in 2008, and it was years ago that he told me this.

Anyone else ever try to hunt down a producer/production company in regards to an unavailable show? How did you do it? Were you successful?

Anyone have any info/insight or suggestions as for what else I can do?

The show is Martin Guerre (revised).

Thanks!

I've never attempted to get a show open for rights like that... partly because most good shows are open for rights.. but also because.. if you wanted to get the rights to a show.. you would probably have to go through a company like MTI, or Samuel French. If a really good show is not on the market.. it's probably a joint decision by the composer(s) and writer(s).. and possibly even original producers to keep people from doing the production.

So.. you're only option.. is to convince all writers, composers, or possibly producers.

good luck!

It would seem that something is in the works with this particular show with Cameron Mackintosh meaning no one else anytime soon is going to be able to get the rights to it.

Good luck, at the very least you have an opportunity to pursue it further and who knows you may be able to get amatuer rights in the future.

Having said that his web-site isnt always current and that maybe he is the big producer you refer to in your first post. If thats the case sorry I couldnt be more help. Good Luck.
