How should the character of Jeffery Act?

Any certain traits I should follow, how should I read his character? I could really use some advice on this! HELP!

Jeffrey is the "We Beseech Thee" solost, ya? If so, he should be very playful and childish. You don't have to play it like a retarded person, but think more along the lines of Teddy Brewster in Arsenic and Old Lace. You are a child and the world is your playground.

PS: Oh, and this is a give-in for all characters, but particularly this one: BE ENERGETIC

PPS: This is just my interpretation of the character, based off of the film. You can play the role however you feel suited.

This is the character description for Jeffrey in the script notes:

Jeffrey- Very high energy. Impish and playful. In the original, he played several musical instruments, including concertina and recorder. (Tenor - falsetto high D above staff)

So, pretty much what what_the_heck said. Of course, with Godspell you always have room to play with your characters.

It sounds really boring and I get tired of hearing the same cast bios repeated, but Jeffrey's is absolutely spot-on. Energy is what drives Jeffrey and he's definitely the "happiest" character in the show.

Well i played the part of Jeffrey last summer and sang We Beseech The. If you ask me he is like the class clown of allof the disiples. Play him as energetic as possible, for Jeffrey there is no such thing as over acting. As for the song if you have touble with the high notes dont worry about it just say them in a funny dialect and the audience will love you. There was one performance of ours where i justdid not feel well and couldnt really sing so i just spoke the high notes. The Audience loved it. If you're playing the part, break a leg and have fun.

I think jeffery is the guy everyone likes, the friend who everyone always wants to be around. He'll cheer you up when ur sad. crack a joke, punch your arm, he likes attention, is confident and playfully aggresive.

I always think of mungojerry from cats...

I agree. I think Jeffrey is less class clown (that's more Herb's and Gilmer's department) and more completely genuine warmth and a need to make people smile.

I played him quite similar to BB here. I also agree with Horton and DramaRobin. He is really energetic, loves to make people smile, thats what makes him smile. Loved that character!
