How's your accent?

Wahay! FotR, great show, great characters, but how have people found the jewish/russian accent? (whatever you want to call it, i dont know)

Im finding the accent a little hard at the moment, im still off on holiday, but was told to get the lines learnt and such and such, by when we got back. I listened to the accent on the film, but to be honest not many of them are very good. There are some good ones, like Topol of course. Also Norma Crane (Golde), but Molly Picon (yente) for me does it the best.

Despite that, Perchik's (my role) portrayal by Paul Micheal Glaser didnt really give me much to copy, or imitate, and the same with Leonard Fray (Motel), but i thought he was a better actor, well he was amazing. so sad what happened to him though.

ANYWAYS! Yeah... any advice on the accent, any good examples??

Let us know how you got on it the end! I will do the same!

Well, when I did it our Perchik didn't really have an accent. He contrasted with Tevye, Golde, etc. He was an "outsider".

ok so I've done this three times....

for perchik I'd say no accent or maybe something really slight...not like an accent but a confident was of speaking...he certainly has a certain tone.

If this is one of the shows that requires everyone to have an accent I would again say very slight. the thing about yiddish accents is that they get more pronounced as you get older.

the best thing to do is talk to your director about what he/she has in mind and then you can search online for various practice tapes (i forget which one we used but it had everything) or youTUBE other fiddler productions.

When I was in it, only the 'older' folks (Tevye, Golde, Yente, Lazar, etc.) had any accent and the young people didn't. But I like Audrey's idea better.
And def. find out what the director wants.

I believe that's standard procedure. It shows that it is the generation where tradition will change.
