I know the show fairly well, but this isn't ever specified. I assume he's older than Martha, who would probably 10-12.

Mary and Colin are both 10. Dickon is around 16, and Martha is supposed to be about 18.

...but when my daughter did the show with a professional company several years ago, their Dickon was a young-looking mid 20's. Same with their Martha.

Mary was 12, Colin was 11.

I think it all depends on the Mary they want, and everyone has to look in proportion to her.

I thought Dickon was older than Martha.

When I did it, Dickon was 3 years ahead of me in school and I was Martha.

I saw a regional production about 10 years ago where Dickon was in his late 30s and Martha was a teenager. (He looked much younger and she played it much older.) I'd had little exposure to the show beforehand and had no idea until a couple years later how non-traditionally they had cast the two.

I'm pretty sure that when I audition on Monday (!!!), they'll have me read for Martha and Mary. I'm still look young enough to be Mary, but age wise I could be a younger Martha. But when the audition announcement was in the paper yesterday, they said they were looking for an 11-year-old Mary. But I still think I could be better than any 11-year-old because of the harmonies and how complex Mary's character is, etc.

Our Dickon was 19 or 20.
Dickon sings in It's a Maze; Winter's on the Wing; Show Me the Key; Wick; Come Spirit, Come Charm; Finale.
