As for my high school: we don't even have an auditorium. There is a hole in the back wall of the gym with a curtain nailed to the back of it. They call this the "stage." But that's just the half of it. Our director has for the past five years chosen unheard-of plays, not musicals. He choses a two-man show for the fall/winter and it goes to some ridiculous competiton with litterally... four other schools and they win runner-up every year. This is thought of as an accomplishment. Every student involved, or who would be involved, would much rather do a musical. As for the spring production, we do a 10-person lifeless play. And there is endless drama. The students who realize how ridiculous this all is refer to it as the Drama-filled Drama Club. The director constantly insults his actors, and is never true to his word. He gave me a part in his two-man competiton piece last fall and then gave it to someone else, and didn't even tell me. When I approached him about it, he said he needed more stage-hands though. He considered that a peace offering. And my suffering was just one of many. People have tried to rebell before, but all have fallen through. I'm committed to mine succeeding, however. Wish me luck!

and why would you think plays are less worthy than musicals??? its all theatre. and I guarantee you you will find more well written palys than well written musicals anyway.

just curious what do you mean by unmknown plays..give me some examples.
