How do I make/buy a wig?

I am looking to get a cat wig/head gear for the character of VICTORIA. Does anyone know where I can buy one from or have any ideas on how to make it? Im completely useless when it comes to using my imagination for costume - - what would I have to make it from?!

Plenty of tips here. Otherwise, you could do a bit of searching on Cats costuming. (Google, ask.com, etc...)
Good luck with your search!

I have always liked the yarn wigs best, and they are SO easy to do!

1st take a foam head...you can get them at any beauty salon, or supply store for less then 1$

Then get a pair of pantyhose. Put the panty hose on your head, and fit it comfortably to your scalp. Cut the legs off and sew the crotch and legs neatly down the center. Now you have your base skull cap.

Select the colors you want for your wig out of a sturdy rug yarn, then with a yarn needle carefully fill in the wig. you will need to latch hook style thread the wige really close, while the pantyhose wig form is on the foam head.

As each row is completed take a dog comb, and fray out the yarn untill it is like hair.

you can use markers and mark out your colored areas before you start "latch hooking" or just go for it!

You can also make ear flaps if you like out of the toes of the pantyhose, but most people just pull the pantyhose cap over their ears. Smile

your freedom with this method is unlimited, and you can achieve some pretty true to original results with half the cost and 200x's the fun!

for examples of what completed yarn wigs look like, see my Rumtumtugger banner, and my German rumpleteaser avatar. Smile

Your yarn wigs are really good, RB. One caution against using this method on a panty hose base is that it's really easy to put runs in the hose. You can acheive essentially the same results (if you're careful) with hot glue. You can get details on both methods (the knotting method is similar to RBs latch-hooking method, I think) at Lady Jemima's costuming site, as well as many other sites (I think her instructions are the most consice). I don't have the address, but you could find it at the CCDB, which I believe someone linked you to Wink

Also, Lady Jemima's Costume Corner has tutorials for Faux Fur, Yarn, and Crepe Wool wigs. Wink
