How Do Forum Casts Work?

I've been wondering for a while.
Luc

Here's how I do 'em. Some do 'em differently, though.
Basically, the director picks the show, and whoever wants to be a part of it is welcome to. The different users talk about themselves and how they relate to certain characters, or why they deserve the title of playing that character. After everyone has had a chance to audition, everyone sends in votes to the director. The director tallies the votes, posts the cast list, then the castmembers make awesome banners. It's a really fun way to get to know other users, but many people don't like them.

Interesting!
I'd noticed these as well, but I'm still kinda new...

With these we usually go through a phase where we have like 5 then everyone gets sick of them and we don't have any for a couple of months
musictheatre00

any chance of an Anything Goes forum cast any time soon? Idea
shakalakababy

well you can always start one. Anyone can do them (i did a phantom one awhile ago) you just have to PM the mod of that forum and get their permission. If you search for previous forum cast threads you can kind of get an idea for how it works.
jesuiscommejesuis

People vote on whom they like most, even though they\'ve never heard eachother sing and sixteen year olds get cast as fifty year olds.

It\'s loads of fun, incredibly realistic, and 100% productive.
wicked_boy

My bestest ever one was The Lion King 07 Forum Cast.

That was so much fun! It was definitely my favorite forum cast... Sweeney was a great one, too!

Man though you guys were funny with TLK. You made countdowns and everything! Razz
wicked_boy

We should have a TLK 07 Forum Cast revival. XD.
musictheatre00

If I started a forum cast, would that mean that I wouldn't be able to try out for it?
jesuiscommejesuis

Don\'t make a forum cast.
Flitterbug

Why not? It goes by personality (or it's supposed to), not by talent.

yes! That was my first and favorite forum cast so far. that was when it was still something new and exciting though
jesuiscommejesuis

Flitterbug - exactly.
Flitterbug

I still dont see why that's a problem. If it went by talent then it would be a way for people to posture and preen and say "look at me, I'm better than everybody else, so I get the lead", rather than just feeling good about themselves in general because people like them. (Or, in my case, because people are slowly getting to know you and thus realise it's more apropriate than they initially realised to cast you as a villain...)
jesuiscommejesuis

I absolutely hate your PC attitude. Its because of people like you that half the schools in this country no longer recognize class valedictorians.

Wow, that was hardly necessary or appropriate!
DontDoSadnessxx

Wow.. a tad bit harsh, flitterbug.

Chris, I suggest not starting a forum cast right now. A lot of people are still happy from the sweeney todd and OUAM forum cast and feel that it's bad for them to audition for another when they already have roles in other.
Also be careful about what show you choose. I know you love Anything Goes, but everyone else may not.
You should also watch another forum cast to see how it goes and get the main idea of it. For example if luc or wb were to another one in the future (far future.)

hope I helped.

So joking about being a villain isn't apropriate? I suppose you thought I was pissed off about my supposed villainy, or somehow trying to imply that people dislike me. Nope. 'Friad not. I am proud to be "evil".

And what exactly is PC about me? In case you hadn't noticed my reply could have been anything but PC had you interpreted it the way I intended it. I also believe that the issue of valedictorians is somewhat different than online castings for hypothetical productions. For one thing, a valedictorian is chosen because of their acchievements, not their personality. A forum cast is chosen for the opposite reasons.

Hm... come to think of it, that might be your issue. You can be the nastiest person alive and still become a valedictorian, whereas if you happen to be the nastiest person alive, chances are nobody would vote for you in an online casting process.

I do see your point now. If people went by talent alone in forum castings then personality wouldn't count at all.
Elphaba22

Im not going to start one, just because i'm not really informed about them but if anyone wants to start a LSOH or Tommy forum cast, i'd be thrilled.
PappyCat

Doing forum casts with actual singing auditions would take too long. Not everyone has a way to record themselves. And, hey, not everyone who goes to this site is a performer. There are tons of people here who are fans and it's still way fun to participate. I, personally, have performed in a few musicals but it's definitely not my forte. I'm more of a fan. And if we ONLY did age appropriate...where would we be? With the same small group of middle aged people getting roles over and over and over again? Or Nobody auditioning. The majority of this site is teenagers - young adults.

They are fun just the way they are. People who don't like them certainly don't need to audition. Of course they are pointless. I worked for Super Nintendo Game fansite and we hosted tons of random games that were completely pointless, but still fun. It's just a community event that people can participate in. I've really enjoyed most of the ones I've participated in, although I've found I enjoy the ones that are shows I really like (OUAM, Hairspray, BatB) more than the ones I'm just a casual fan of (ITW, PotO.)

Did anyone mention that you need Moderator approval to direct a forum cast? Cause you do indeed.

Personally, I could go another couple of weeks without doing one. They are lots of fun, but I prefer when they are spread out.

Very Happy That was hardly appropriate. There is no justification for chatspeak, even when you're trying to be sarcastic.

Could we maybe bitch over PM's, please?
We're having a conversation here.

Kthanks.

Nobody even talks the way you guys pretend to talk.

Anyway, Flitterbug, I see nothing inappropriate about what you said. I think people might have misread it and thought you were saying that OTHER people seem more villainous after getting to know them. That is the only reason I see for calling your comment uncalled for.

You should think of your own comebacks. All you ever use is Matthew's.
emmy05

It was years ago, but I took on an ITW forum cast years ago after the director didn't have the time commitment. Everyone had to choose a song to audition with for the role they wanted and explain what they were doing while they sang. You chose a role you wanted and also answered few questions as to why you would be good in that role and what you were looking for on your journey into the woods. I'm a dork with a good memory.
musictheatre00

woah, all these people with drama really got to take a chill pill.
