How can I promote my show?

Hi everyone. My high school is doing Footloose at the end of March. In addition to acting in the show, I am on the marketing and promotional team. I've had several brainstorms, but I would really appreciate any ideas that you guys might have on how to "get the word out."

first off you need to call thel ocal entertainment editors and take some good quality "in costume" pictures. get the papers to do special articles on the show. example one paper can do an article on costuming the show *80s costuumes etc)

another paper can do an article on the cast ..if its a school show papers like when itws a big cast getting the whole school involved etc.

The local high school here released short YouTube "making of" videos prior to their last two shows, that had some viral marketing value:

For example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJ7QdWwNvFg

I got the link from an musical theater newsletter for the Bay Area. That's a great way to get musical theater fans in to see a high school show.

Posters in local store windows.
The name and dates of the show on a sign (if your high school has a sign by a road, especially)
As Salome noted, media publicity. Send a press release to your local papers, and be sure to note any "hooks" that might make it an interesting story beyond just "so and so is putting on a show."

Definetely put up posters. Also..use your connections. Find people who know people at radio stations..television stations. Network Network Network. That's one thing you can't get enough of in the theatre.
