HONK!

I just wanted to know if anyone has ever heard of the show HONK!: The Ugly Duckling Story. It's not out in America's Broadway...yet. But it is out in Britains and won an award equvalant (spelling?) to the Tony. Anyone ever heard of it?
Zines

Yea I've heard of it. Good show. Ugly and drake are my faveriotes.
kakoforever

I was the Cat in a production of this.

My roommate was in the show, I think... we were watching a video of the production once - it's a cute musical. Smile
Holly

A theatre around here did it. It's such a cute show, I loved seeing it. Smile

It's the Interlochen production this year and I'm a little skeptical, not knowing basically anything about it, except that it's Ugly Duckling (which isn't saving my jaded teenage skepticism for the concept any). Can someone tell me a little more about it, and why people who have done it seem to adore it so? Thanks in advance.

Yes I was in this as Ida (Honks mum). Its a really fun musical but i have never seen it!

Honk Jr.....Mommy Swan. My kids were awesome and I was 6 months older than Ugly, but he had about 3 inches on me.

I miss my bird family. Crying or Very sad

Basically EponineGirly, it is the story about the Ugly Duckling, but it is so much more. It deals with prejudice and all that kinds of stuff, only in a new kind of way. There's a lot of great characters too, like The Cat, who wants to eat the Ugly Duckling up, and Ugly (my favorite), who is the ugly duckling, and Ida, the loving mom... THERE ARE MANY MANY OTHER CHARACTERS TO LOVE TOO! It gives a new story on the ugly duckling, if you ever do it chances are you will probably fall in love with it.

I'm doing it this summer. Thanks for the positive outlook.

I did it a few years ago at my middle school. It's a good show, but we did the junior version and didn't really have anyone good to be Drake or Ugly. I was Ida. There just aren't enough guys in middle schools! So that experience sort of screwed up the show for me...

I was Ida in this show, its a lovely part and a lovely show. Not particulary deep or anything but is a great fun family show!

I was Dot (a goose) and a Blizzard soloist in HONK! Jr. It's a fun show. I would recommend doing it with kids. We had two great people that played Ida and Ugly and a pretty good Drake. Our cat could really belt too which made her jazzy song (You Can Play With Your Food) so much fun! My friends and I would mouth the words along with her. It was a really fun show.

SWEET!! i can say that I was the only one in this entire group who gets to say that they got to play the....(insert dramatic music here)...BULLFROG! It was my last show that I was in...And it was fantastic...the cast party was great too...Lets just say that that ended up in me and 5 other guys in their boxers sliding down a slide at two o'clock in the morning. yeah...it took my s a month to recover.

Honk

Our charter school is planning to do a Broadway Junior version of "Honk." We would love to acquire a video copy of another production of "Honk" that we can use to introduce the musical to our students. It would not need to be professional quality! Can anyone out there help us?
Amber

I worked the spotlight for a local production of HONK. I loved the show- we had talented people in the leads and a very good and enthusiastic supporting cast. Highlights of the show are "Hold Your Head Up High", "Every Tear A Mother Cries", and "Play With Your Food".

The Blizzard scene's also really neat (especially with the brilliant lighting plan we had- blue and white spotlights, dimmed overhead stage lights, etc.

God I loved that show, wish I could actually be IN it someday.

Our theatre's youth group did a performance of it and it was absoultey awesome Very Happy Never heard of it, never heard the music, well had a bit due to my friends singing it but went to see it and fell in love with the show.

If you ever get the chance to go see it DO, please you will be laughing so hard, then feeling sorry for poor Ugly, it goes on a whirlwind of emotions but the songs are so FUN Very Happy

*sings* LOOK AT HIM! *sings*

Such a cute show-right now I'm rehearsing for it as Dot and the solist for the Blizzard. I saw that somebody also did this exact thing. Is it common to give both of these parts to the same person?
Luc

Not particularily those two characters, but Dot and Greylag (and almost EVERYBODY else in the show) doubles as someone else. For instance, we had Ida in Warts and All dressed as a frog.
Nicely-Nicely

Most schools won't do that... unless you don't have many kids in your cast... other than that the people with speaking parts in your cast should not be double casted. The only actors/actresses that should be double casted are chorus members.
broadwayxdoll

i love it. it was my first show. i was Ugly Very Happy

I know this is an old thread, but I don't get in here often. Wink
I did the Junior version of Honk three years ago and I'm dying to do it again. Just an absolute delight. A great opportunity for a huge cast which is something I'm always looking for. And our Ugly was the biggest kid in the show! Very funny.

Been kind of curious why it never made it to Broadway.....ah well, their loss.
