Homework Help - Who's Your Favorite Character? So I'm doing a project for Creative Writing - What qualities do people look for when choosing a favorite character? I figured that you guys could help me with this one, after all, the conclusion sounds more realistic when you have actual facts or the support of others to back it up. So if you could please post who your favorite character is and then post why you like them it would be a big help. And, no, you're not doing my project for me, I've already done most of it, I just thought having this would help make my project better. I hope to see everyone's post. Thanks! |

Here's an example of what I would like:
My favorite character is Boq. He is a misfit and is in love with someone who he can't have, which makes me pity him. He also gets his heart taken out and is turned into a man of tin, which makes me pity him more. Plus, I can connect to him because I'm also short (I imagine an unusually tall Munchkin would still be short) and the Tin Man was always my favorite character in the original Wizard of Oz. That isn't so bad, is it? It doesn't even have to be that long, as long as you make it clear to me who you choose, and especially why you choose them. Thanks again! |

I think the character I identify the most with would be Elphaba, as predictable as that is. I like her because I feel like I can identify with her for trying to be a good person, and having it conistantly fail before my eyes. I enjoy singing and lip-synching to her music as an expressive outlet for frustrations of the day and it feels as if it could come from me as a person.
That's also a good explanation of Musical Theatre and music to me, expressing things I don't think I can express to friends or family, and instead, I can act out on stage for people to look inside my soul and maybe see me through my character, as awful as they can. It's honesty within a character and myself. |

Favorite CharacterI am new here, but really wanted to respond to thisWhenever I see a musical, I take pieces from each character. In Wicked, I feel I am a lot like Elphaba, expecially in her lyric, "this weird quirk I've tried to suppress or hide is a talent that could... help me meet the Wizard." I have always felt like there was so much of me that was hidden and tucked away, for fear of being too much. Then again, I like Glinda for her innocence and conversion to truth. I feel like so many times I see things in a skewed version of my own reality, only to have my eyes widened by what is actually occurring. The fact that Glinda (in the end) sees the world as it is, yet still sees hope, is very encouraging. Thanks for reading this.... I will start posting in this forum now that I am a member |

My favorite character in Wicked is Elphaba. I feel that she is a strong character that is always misunderstood and that is something that everybody at some point in their life can relate to. In the begining of the play Elphaba doubts her self and as time goes she changes. I feel that Elphaba represents the fact that you always need to stand up for what you believe in, even though people might misunderstand you... she shows you need to be true to yourself and thats a value in life that sometimes becomes overlooked. "Elphaba" is an inspirational character and that is why she is my favorite. |

My favorite character is G(a)linda. I've always felt myself drawn to characters that seem so shallow and stereotypical because of the fact that you know there has to be more there. So that is one of the reasons that I love her character. She wants popularity, power, to be loved. But then she isn't as happy as she thought she would be once she does get all those things. She realizes that there are things that are more important in life. Unfortunately, she figures it out too late and the damage has already been done so she is left to carry on alone, which ultimately makes her one of the show's more tragic characters. |

Oz. handsdown. He is responible for so much teror and turmoil and yet he truley bleieves he is doing the right thing. i tihnk he is also one of the few characters in the musical that compares to the brilliance of the novel. |

Doc Dillamond...
because I feel bad for him. I mean, really, he's a talking goat. Sure, being green is kind of rough, but at least Elphaba has magic powers. Dillamond is just a talking goat with 3 minutes of stagetime even though the plot circles around him. |

I didn't pick a character. It's really hard to decide for me. But maybe this will help you:
When I pick a favourite character, usually that character has many similar qualities to me or someone close to me. I find that I can understand the story better when I can relate to one of the main characters. But sometimes I don't pick who I relate best to. Sometimes I do the exact opposite. If there is a character that is NOTHING like me at all, but just fascinating to read about, that always intrigues me, too. When I "meet" a character that is nothing like anyone I've ever met, it's like meeting a new person. It's a nice change to the life I'm living. And, if there is a deep plot line, that character may open new doors to simple things that I do. I hope that made at least a little sense! |

Elphaba is Awesome, but my other favorite character is Nessarose. Most people agree with me about Elphaba, but since no else likes the other Thropp sister, I'll explain here.
Nessa was badly maimed from birth and according the to the book, was highly religous. She's been unable to imagine living a normal life without the ability to walk and because of the way she was raised so when Boq asks her to the dance, she's thrilled. She's seriously deluded into thinking the he must really love her to do that and so she loves him back. |
