Holy Harry Potter!I have never been a fan of the whole Harry Potter thing, but I think it might be time to jump on the bandwagon!!!http://www.playbill.com/news/article/105314.html |

Or at least time to jump on Dan Radcliffe.

Question: Since he is going ot be naked in the play and is only 17, in the US it would be considered child pornography and never happen. What are the laws about nudity and age and child pornography in the UK?
| Salome |
Old news. He was signed to play Alan Strang 6 months ago.
as for the nudity...Peter Firth who originalted the role was only 16 when he played Alan in the original production. btw..we have a thread on this.... http://musicals.net/forums/viewtopic.php?p=671925&highlight=#671925 |

OOps sorry didn't knwo there was another thread. I knew he signed on to play it awhielago, but i just saw the pics today. Sorry my thread is not up to your standards Salome. Anyways, I still want my question answered. Child Pornography laws are stronger nowadays anyways. Plus I am curious if peopel think this is a good decision or not. I am sure there is a thread on that too, so dont have to tell me salome, but i dont wanna search

me likey. Anyway. I'm exited for the next book. |

That's kind of pathetic. |
||||||
| Kaaatrina |
That's all I'm going to say. |
||||||
| MaryMag |
He is really horribly attractive. And pale. And 17. But horribly attractive nonetheless.
I actually think it's a great decision for him. He's fighting early on to keep himself from being pegged as just a child actor or as an actor that just performs lighter fare. He's fighting to become Daniel Radcliffe instead of Harry Potter. |
||||||
| katethegreat |
Sex in the UK is legal at 16, you aren't officially an adult until you're 18 but you can pretty much do what you want with your body after that! Daniel has chosen to do this role and I'm sure he went in with his eyes open. By that it is certainly NOT child pornography! The stereotype is that we brits are uptight and prudish. I swear its the other way round sometimes! Good on him - it's a fantastic play. And I'm glad he's working against Harry - he's gonna have to work hard to shake him off over the nest few years if he wants any future. |
||||||
| Jordan |
That said, there are gay websites all over that are going "OMFG don't link to the pictures because we'll get closed down." I think it's slightly hysterical but they're generally scared because of the influence of right wing Christians.
Daniel Radcliffe has the fully grown body of a man, this much is rather obvious. In fact, he's probably going to suffer from Wookie-itis by the looks of him. The thing is, he's going to be 5 months short of his 18th birthday when he starts performing the play. However, because there are pics of him that I would describe as "could be dressed only in speedos" for the low level the camera has gotten to, a lot of gay websites are crapping themselves. This is because although Daniel has been able to have sex with whomever he wants for 18 months, we're not supposed to see any sex appeal in him for fear of the links made between homosexuality and paedophilia. I think it's all rather ridiculous. |
||||||
| katethegreat |
Who isn't?! (sorry, had to be said.)
Its completely ridiculous - ignorance is really scary these days. I always thought Daniel would grow up well - hope the on-set of Wookie-itis doesn't take hold for a few more years! |

From those photos, Radcliffe seems more interested in the horse than the girl.
|
||||||
| Jordan |
I can't be sure if you're kidding, but from what I recall, wasn't that the point of Equus? |
||||||
| Pounce |
Then he is a good actor. I have no idea what Equus is about. |
||||||
| katethegreat |
Maybe look into it?
Tis dodgy, I can't deny - but good! |
||||||
| Salome |
Exactly. Equus deals with a boy whose mind sees horses as gods. (his athiest father took a picture of christ off his wall and gave him a horse picture instead as a young boy).
when Alan makes love to jill the horses are there watching..which causes his blinding oft he horses with a spike. |

ohhh i meltt......i NEED to see this....or maybe i just need to find myself a beautiful half naked man
| katethegreat |
I think we all need a beautiful half naked man sometimes! |
||||||
| Jordan |
BUT HE'S JUST A BOY! HE'S 5 MONTHS SHORT OF BEING 18, HE CAN'T POSSIBLY KNOW HIS OWN MIND! HE'S BEING EXPLOITED BY THOSE COMMUNIST PERVERTS AND PINKOS! PLEASE WON'T SOMEBODY THINK OF THE CHILDREN???

if harry potter can go from geeky knob to sex symbol... all power to him, fair play mate
| Salome |
Alan Strang is not a sex symbol character. the whole sex scene is a rather horriying moment in th Equss.
| Da_Dark_Dude |
im aware, but im not talking about the character, im talking about the actor

My director is going to see this in London in late March I believe. He's as giddy as a schoolgirl.

Richard Griffis may yet win an 2nd olivier award.

HAHAHA!!! I'm going to go see this - not often something so talked about is in London first. |

No threads are ever up to Salome's standards. That's just the nature of who she is. (And I don't necessarily mean that in a bad way). |
||||||
| luckystar_30 |
As attractive as I'm sure our little Harry Potter is, let's not forget how amazing this play is. When a play is done correctly, then nudity will obviously be adding to the plot. The nudity in this play is rather important in showing the characters reasons for his actions later on - not to give anything away.
If any of you have a chance to see it, I really hope you will. Hopefully I'll manage to grab some tix of my own! |
||||||
| katethegreat |
I'm really looking forward to seeing a top class production of this play - I've read, studied and seen a semi-professional production in the past, so I'm grateful that I could walk to this production if I wanted to! (although I think I'll get the tube |
||||||
| Salome |
I saw john Cullum do the show in Philly ages ago. he was os moving and intense. I wish he had taken that production to Broadway.

would it be kind of creepy if i were to take one of those half naked pictures of him to kinkos to have it blown up?
i think i want to put it on my ceiling |

Ok, I admit I'm a huge HP geek. Like almost bigger than I am a theatre geek. Anyway, I listen to a Harry Potter podcast. They were discussing the play.
Anyway, a lot of people are going to see this show because 1. it's Daniel Radcliffe AKA Harry Potter and 2. it's Daniel Radcliffe nude. However, one of the podcasters mentioned hopefully people who go see the play will be able to take something away from it besides "Harry Potter is hot." I mean, isn't that why he's doing the show? So people realize he's a real actor and not just a fandom poster boy? Do you think people who come to see Dan will be able to connect with the show and learn something from it, even becoming fans of the show and of theatre? Although, if Daniel Radcliffe really wanted to be thought of as someone outside Harry Potter, he probably should have done a show without full nudity first. It is going to draw A LOT of fangirls. And I don't think fangirls are going to be able to understand the play. |
||||||
| what_the_heck013 |
It would be hilarious if he sucks in the role and actually stands there the whole time looking "hot" i.e. Beyonce in Dreamgirls.
| Sweeney Hyde |
I don't see why girls are hog wild over him...of course I AM a guy so I probably just don't understand or whatever...but he is just skinny...skinny arms...
| shadowdancer |
I don't know, it is really odd though. I am a 2o-somethign gay guy and think he looks hot in th epics. Now, other pics, movies NOPE. Just the ones for Equus. I can't explain it, but he looks awesome on the picks. Maybe it is the whole that's harry potter/17 year old boy/Equus is one of my fav alltime plays things. |
||||||
| Sweeney Hyde |
maybe you just like to see guys with no shirt on that are young and not fat. |

This is a good point because the shrink is being played by Richard Griffiths (i.e. Uncle Vernon from the HP films) and he is a damned good actor. If Radcliffe doesn't match him, he's going to look so abysmal. However, woo! A play on the London stage that is guaranteed to recoup the investment! |
||||||
| Luc |
From what I've seen, the kid has amazing acting ability. Think of the thousands (maybe even tens of thousands) of kids who auditioned for HP and didn't get in. I think he must have SOMETHING.
| katethegreat |
To be honest I thought they were all terrible in the first few films, but they're starting to grow into their roles and acting. Yes there were a lot of kids that auditioned for Harry, but the fact that at least one of Daniel's parent's is a casting director (the reason he got his role in David Copperfield as a kid) probably did help.
As famous as he is, I doubt he would have got role if he wasn't up to it though. I'm thinking they might have an age recommendation on this play, at least warnings on the posters...well, I'm hoping they do because I want to go and see this play without squealing little girlys talking and gasping and treating the whole thing like they're at the cinema...Ok, I know I'm generalising - they're not all gonna be like thatl. But.
|
||||||
| Salome |
Griffiths in brillaint. and don't forget Jenny Agutter..Jill from the film version of Equuss is now playing Alan's mother,Mrs. Strang. |
||||||
| Jordan |
Sounding better and better! I may well have to go and see it. I hate to think a) how much tickets will be and b) how hard they will be to get hold of |
||||||
| Luc |
Well, think about it this way: if Radcliffe had never been in any movies/tv or wasn't known to the public (and still had the same acting ability) and he auditioned for this role, do you think he would get it?
I'm not trying to prove a point. I have no idea what the show is about... but just something to think about. |
||||||
| Sweeney Hyde |
Good point...I REALLY doubt he would have gotten the part without previous fame. They would have found someone with a profile if they wanted to make money. |
||||||
| katethegreat |
I don't think he'd have got it - not for a west end production anyway... I'm with you GB - I'm pretty sure the tickets will be stupidly priced, and it is going to be impossible to get tickets in the first couple of weeks to month. Hopefully the popularity will keep it long enough for people like us who are going to see the play, not Harry Potter naked. |
||||||
| christinadaae |
He didn't actually audition. The casting director just saw him on the street and liked the way he looked, so he gave him the part. |
||||||
| Jordan |
That's not quite true. I couldn't find Dans official website (how weird is that) but anyway, the producer saw him in David Copperfield and said he should be invited in to audition. He *did* audition. |
||||||
| Sweeney Hyde |
Yes this is true. He did have to go through some sort of actual audition to play the part. Do you remember when they said it would only be able to keep up with the movies for maybe three because of the age. Now their pumping them out quicker than ever so that the same actors can stay! |

I thought both Grint and Watson were good in the beginning although I didn't like Watson's Hermione with her constant bitchiness, but that could be the fault of the direction given to her. But Radcliffe was so wooden and dull. By the third film, he seemed to be making progress and by the fourth film, I'd say he'd come up to speed and was on par with Grint and Watson.
My impression was that he got the part because he looks so much like Harry Potter (well, the American version anyway).
His fame however might have made casting overlook any of his shortcomings, but I think Radcliffe has matured as an actor after the 4th HP film. I read somewhere that Emma Watson might drop out of the last two films. Apparently she has scored well on her exams (very well actually) and is thinking of college and not so much about acting. I think it would be a big mistake if she did walk away from HP. She has more time than she thinks for school and opportunities like HP don't come often. Radcliffe and Watson intend to see the series through and make a career of acting. |
||||||
| Jordan |
Personally I can't stand Grint's acting.
His main thing is to pull a face. Then he says things like "Bloody hell" in the HP films. He was rubbish in Thunderpants (which admittedly was made shortly after the first film I think) and I saw him in Driving Lessons over the Christmas period with Julie Walters and she knocked spots off him with her acting while he stood there pulling faces to camera and saying "Bloody hell!" Personally I feel Radcliffe and Watson have become the better actors. When watson did the Yule Ball scene and was upset in GoF I thought she was very believable. |
||||||
| Pounce |
Yeah, in the 3rd HP film, I didn't like his wimpiness. For me it worked in the 2nd film but not the 3rd.
That impressed me too. If Watson decides to leave, I think she'll someday look back and regret that decision. |
||||||
| Luc |
And PLUS she is frickin hot!!!
|
||||||
| Jordan |
I now have tickets to go and see this. They are NOT cheap at all. I've booked 4 tickets in the Grand Circle (i.e. the Gods) and it's cost me £130. Decent seats are £49.50 each I know in the USA that Broadway tickets are expensive, roughly twice the price of ours, but I feel this is expensive for us in the UK. BTW, for any Brits, I bought from lastminute.com For the stalkers amongst you, 24th Feb Matinee, ok? |

Newsweek reported yesterday that the producer wanted to take it to America.
heh heh hehhhhh |
||||||
| Salome |
I found the kids betteri n the first two films. actually I havent liked the films since #2. maybe its because no one can compare to Richard Harris as Dumbledore.
| Baker |
In the first film, they all seem a bit wooden - granted, they were all very green and very young. Although Dan Radcliffe and Emma Watson have certainly progressed, I think Rupert Grint was good in the first and just plain bad from there. I would put Emma at the best actress of the three.
And to Salome, I completely agree - Richard Harris is the best Dumbledore anyone could imagine. |
||||||
| katethegreat |
Aw crap! Nothing round the £15 mark? I hadn't realised it was starting so soon...ah well, you'll have to review it for me GB! |
||||||
| Jordan |
Keep checking lastminute.com as the run progresses... It may be that once the fervour dies down, The Sun has printed a sneaked picture of Dan with a magic wand/wizards hat to protect his modesty, tickets might start becomming available at reasonable prices on sites like that. |
||||||
| katethegreat |
Will do!
You can trust the Sun for summat like that... |
||||||
| Eponine93 |
That's a disaster waiting to happen. Salome, the first two movies are better because the first two movies follow the books very closely. The last two movies have two different directors and substantial parts of the book are deleted or changed. And it was the books that made the Harry famous, not the rubbish movies. The fifth movie is likely to be like the third and fourth (with yet another director and a lot of elements cut due to the size of the book) yet I'm looking foward it because the fifth book is my favorite book and I'd love to see how they butcher it. |
||||||
| mizzie |
I'm going to jump in and be the idiot who says that she likes Grint's acting. His character in the films, let's face it, is bad. Ron's been reduced almost entirely to comic relief, with hardly any depth. He probably seems to be the easiest of the characters to play because of that. However, to me, he seems to be a very natural actor/comedian, making the role quite pleasant. Not great (I don't think it can be that), but really pleasant. Still, I think they're all quite good, considering what they've been given as far as characters go. I'm praying that the fifth film and so on will be better, and have some consistancy in their direction.
As far as Emma Watson leaving, she can't! It wouldn't matter to me if she was the worst actress of all time (which I definitely don't think she is), she's still going to be in at least the first five films. It would just be weird to see a new Hermione - for anybody. My twelve cents. |
||||||
| Eponine93 |
Don't worry. Emma Watson is not leaving. At least, not according to www.mugglenet.com, the most reliable HP site on Earth.
| katethegreat |
I have to agree with you actually - he is the most comfortable and natural actor of the three, but Ron has become very 2D in the films...
Anyway, on the films...I've actually preferred them since Chris Columbus left them - the books get darker and I dread to think what he would have done with that! I've liked the books as they got darker - same with the films. Although I liked them when they were originally released, I can't watch the first two films now - especially not the Chamber of Secrets, that book to me was more of a link, a bridge to keep the story running I think. Ugh, don't know how to explain it - too tired!
|
||||||
| Sweeney Hyde |
^^My favorite books are Chamber of Secrets and Half-Blood Prince. I think Chamber was a very important book as it gave us much more insight into Voldemort/Tom Riddle. It also explains why Hagrid was expelled, introduces Lockheart, and starts the romance between Ginny and Harry, although Harry doesn't want it.
| katethegreat |
All true, I just think that maybe the story wasn't as well written - maybe it was more about explanations than story like the other books?
| Sweeney Hyde |
^^Again I disagree. I think that the story for Chamber works perfectly. The way that everything is understood near the end and how all the mysteriousness of the story suddenly makes sence is briliant. You're allowed to not like it though. All of my old friends, from another state, loved Azkaban but that's my least favorite.
| Eponine93 |
I like Chamber of Secrets least of all the HP books. I read it when I was in third grade when local rumor was the girl's bathroom at our school was haunted by Bloody Mary... seriously, that's what we called the ghost |
||||||
| Not Dead Yet |
Abandoned thread, haha. But I agree, COS is my least favourite. Did anyone see Equus and can they share their opinion on it? And also, general opinions on Radcliffe's brief mention that he takes vocal lessons? (Do you think we can expect him to accept singing parts in the future, or is it more likely for his love of Rock music that he wants to sing?) |
