Highschool production of cats

Again here I go with the youtube. Unlike the treasure trove of clips from Japan these are clips from a high school production using the infamous worn out costumes we have come to abhore. They meow too much!

The clips aren't in the best condition, considering the poster head his video camera up to a TV or computer monitor, but the audio is decent more or less.

The character playing Munkustrap sounds like he is going through puberty and before the Gumbie Cat number begins too much meowing. Plus the Queen Trio act too sexy during this number, it doesn't fit.

Skimbleshanks doesn't sound have bad, could use a bit more practice though.

The poster as Mr. Mistoffelees. His make-up reminds me of one of the circus people Penguin had as henchmen in Batman Returns or if anyone remembers the movie Hocus Pocus his make-up resembles the band members who performed at the Halloween ball before the adults fell under the Sanderson sisters' spell. Not a bad voice, though.'

It's James Brown as Misto! I like Tugger.

Bustopher Jones. This piece sounds wonderful, except I wish they would quit that *&%*(* meowing.

Gus the Theater Cat. Took too long to load on my computer.

Old Deuteronomy has a gentle voice, really nice to listen too.

Rumpelteazer and Mungojerrie. Cute they're using scarves tied to sticks! I love this pair, but Rumpel sounds too much like an opera singer. They're the best yet.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7MazTvaDnGY

Misto singing Mungo and Rumpel's number. The audio is so loud that it burns out any quality I could think of. Make the pain stop!

Then there are some more of the poster singing like in the above link. I'm too lazy to post anymore. It looks like this production had it's up and downs, but was probably not that bad to watch. Other than the prepubescent Munkustrap, James Brown Misto dancing, the costumes, and the redundant meowing many of the actors had strong voices and got into their characters.

Now for something even scarier, some Portuguese? kids in spandex unitards without much effort yelling "The Naming of Cats." Run very far away. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bS5rjub1p9g&search=jellicles

hey come on now...it's a highschool production...be nice...anyway thanks for sharing....though I agree that the meowing is too much.

Remember that this is a HIGH SCHOOL production, not an off Broadway show. And IDK about that school but most schools don’t have a large budget to be able to spend on their school productions. Hey at least they got to do it, the high school won’t do it b/c the drama teacher doesn’t like it.

The only thing I saw wrong with that show was that it was so out of focus. And IDK about the rest of you but as much as I love CATS I can only watch the video so many times before it gets, dare I say, boring. I’m ready for something new and personally I’d like to start a collection of foreign, dinner theater, high school and any other productions. The only problem with that would be to actually FIND these videos.

Well that’s my two cents anyway; I liked it I just wish it had been in focus. Yea maybe the costumes weren’t up to par with Broadway but they did a good job.

Do you mind PLEASE making your fonts a lot smaller and you signature wwaaaayyy smaller?!?!?! If you don't know how to size them down, just PM Quique with your pictures and ask him to size it down -- he will do it!!!
Phew, moving right along...

Part of the reason the quality was bad was because it was a filming of a filming. The person was filming his TV!! That probably didn't help much.

I think the HS did a fantastic job, considering that they ARE a HS. You have NO IDEA what it would be like if my high school did that....I would be suicidal.

Yes, I admit I was critical, but I've seen some high schools put on some wonderful productions. I did say positive things in my post, but everything is my opinion. I focused on the things that seemed funny to me and thought others would find them funny too.

Ehh... I cringed when they said VEE VAT instead of VI VAT! Though the quality is out of focus, of what I can see of it, the set looks pretty good, along with the lighting. Other than that, the singing is pretty pitiful! I know this is a HIGH SCHOOL production, but I'm currently in a high school production of CATS and the singing is much better! I'll be sure to post clips and pictures when it's finished! Rolling Eyes

And that video of the poster, as Mister Mistoffelees is very creepy... Shocked

*sigh*

Once again we have living proof of why RUG should have never ever released the rights. Shocked Mad d'oh!

Oh come on, be nice!
Laughing heh, look at me. I haven't even watched it yet because I'm doing online homework and my computer will crash if I attempt to watch it (too much loading) and that wouldn't be good!
But aside from that, yeah. This is a highschool production. Perfection can't be expected...and if it's a total flop, and embarrassment to the show, well, what can we say. They tried. Highschools are limited in resources (and sometimes talent,) but if they want to do a fun show, than maybe the point is just to HAVE FUN. If the performers and audience know and appreciate the effort and time put into it, then I personally think that can make it a great show.
Wow, it sounded like I just gave a little speech. Shocked
I never give speeches.
Yay for my first speech!
Laughing Embarassed Cool
Have a nice day everyone!

Okay, I will now give some critique.
You may want to come back to this, as it will probably be updated at one point so I don't clutter with posts.

The Old Gumbie Cat" Munkustrap has a good voice actually, it's just the way that he's singing the song. He's not a bad singer, but...well, you catch my drift. (I think.) er...the meowing- no comment, but I actually liked the trio.

Skimbleshanks: I think the only thing here is that the range seems a little difficult for the performer, thus the effort is made by speaking in certain tones. (ie :" "Northern Hemisphere!!") It might have been better I think to sing it in a comfortable range, but it wasn't that bad otherwise I don't think.

To be added onto.
