Highest notes (anyone have Phantom sheet music?)For curiousity's sake, what are the notes at the end of "Phantom of the Opera" that Christine sings, when she's just ahh-ing and then finally the incredibly piercing high note at the very end?
Is that the highest note she sings in the entire show, if not, what is?
Thanks

Hahaha lol! I have a low voice so it's in my dreams if I even get to that note let alone an E!!

According to the audition bills, both Christine and Carlotta hits that high E. And yes, it is the highest note in the show. Sometimes Christine's high E is a recorded D which is digitally pushed up to an E, though..... So there is hope.

*crosses fingers* haha Nah, I can reach the E once I'm sufficiently warmed up. That would be freaking awesome to play Christine... hey, one can always dream, eh?

Haha, I am a (high...but not lyric) baritone, but my falsetto can go rediculously high. I can actually reach that note (though the highest note that I can really sing well without it seeming like im shreiking is the C# or the D).
Maybe, just maybe I'll be Christine one day...
wait...sorry just felt left out.

Yep, they both sing up to an E, I'm staring at the music right now.

But it is generally pre-recorded, so you don't have to hit it every night

Well, I'll never play either one, so it doesn't matter for me. I'm never going to play the ingenue in anything, and I don't sing operetically (I don't think it's spelled right...).
I think I'd end up playing Mme. Giry.

That E.....I practised and practised and practised that note until I could finally hit it every time. The first time, I ran downstairs (I was in my room so I didn't cause my family to lose their hearing) and said, "Mom! I just hit THE NOTE!" She was like "Yeah....that's great..." But I was so proud of myself.

Yeah... Celia's was prerecorded, it was very very obvious... no such luck for Calotta though

Yeah, I think I'm stuck with Meg. How high does she go? The highest I can go comfortably is a G, on a good day I can shove up to a Bb.

I don't think that Meg needs to be a very strong singer. Is this correct? Because I have the OBC or something and I think that she sucks in Angel of Music there, and the Meg I saw last wednesday wasn't too strong a singer either.

I thought Kara Klein (current Broadway Meg) was a good singer. The one I saw before that wasn't as good (it was the understudy, can't remember who). I'm also not crazy about the one on the OLC. Personally, my favourite Meg is Jennifer Ellison.

Hehe, wish I had known that when I aimed to become a singer. I could never hit the E so I thought that Christine was a hopeless goal to reach for. I could hit the D though . Ah, well, I'm not sure I would have been good enough anyway .

I am in the process of doing that right now. I can hit it on an extremely good day, but I'm trying to not try too hard (if that makes any sense) so that I don't wreck my voice!! But yes, one day I will be able to do it.
Playing Christine, that would be the most awesome role! One day...

And I'll be Carlotta...

Go for it.
Hey, wouldn't it be great if one day, the cast of Phantom either on Broadway or in the West End (or rather the "London Theatre Assosciation" ) were members of m.net? I think that would be quite hilarious.... I can see us now, sitting arounf backstage one night...
Happyguava: I've always wanted to be Christine... I even remember posting about it on musicals.net years ago.
Me: Really? Me too! Except I wanted to be Carlotta...
operafantomet: Same here! Wait - you're happyguava, aren't you!
Happyguava: *gasps* Operafantomet?!
Me: Well I'll be damned!
*Big M.Net Phantom Reunion*
Okay, that sucked... lol.

That's awesome! Well, at least I liked it. An M.net reunion, that would be so cool. And of course, I would be there. Not on stage, but stage managing, or some other thankless job making you all look great.

Sure!
Okay, let's cast this right now... LOL
The Phantom:
Christine: Happyguava
Christine standby: operafantomet
Christine Understudy: RainyCrystal; NoOneMournsTheWicked
Raoul:
Carlotta: GlamorousGriz (u/s Carlotta) (LOL!)
Andre:
Firmin:
Mme. Giry: Fantine

Hairdresser:
Buquet:
Mirror Bride: NoOneMournsTheWicked

Who'd I forget?:

RainyCrystal

Since I'm a ballet rat, I think I can get away with being Meg, and with the way my voice is going right now... I think I can at least pass on as Christine's understudy.
~Sissi
|
NoOneMournsTheWicked
|
Then can I be one of Christine's understudys? Like the Princess/Mirror Bride understudy?
|
Carlotta
|
And I the Confidante... the Confidante who will be Griz's understudy.
|
GlamorousGriz
|
LOL, all right guys, already added... anybody else?

I'm so glad you posted this, my brother was palying the soundtrack from the movie the other day, and just for kicks and giggles I snuck up behind him and gave my best shot at the note, much to my surprise, I nailed it Since I'm fairly young right now (see signature) Is there a chance that I might lose that note when I get older??
|
convict24601

haha... I will play Phantom (I really like his songs - especially "Music of the Night" ) and on a really good day I can hit a tenor C lol.
I'll probably be the youngest Phantom though lol.
Whats the cast lit so far

I guess it all depends. When I was really little (we're talking 5-10), I don't think I could go any higher than a high E very well. Now I can almost hit the really high E 10 years later... voice lessons help ^_^ If you're afraid of losing your range, you might want to consult a voice instructor or someone like that. I don't know too many people who lose their high notes... well, except guys, of course XD

Um...the whole hitting a high C (in chest voice) isn't really a necessary skill for playing the phantom.
And I'm furious that I'm not Christine.
grumble grumble.

You'd make a better than Christine than Sarah Brightman.
I don't know why, but there's something about her voice...it somewhat annoys me.
I could probably play Christine... if I get some training. I'd never be able to sing like Carlotta, though.
|
le_moofin
|
Personality-wise, Carlotta is the more fun character. She's just so.. interesting. However, Christine is also an amazing part to play. As to which I am more suited to play, I'd say either role would be a major accomplishment for me ^_^

Lol, you guys aree lucky. I love Phantom but it's the absolute worst show for me to be in, considering I'm an Alto, Lol. I Could never do it.
|
le_moofin
|
Well, I'm sure if you practiced you could be Meg or Mme. Giry. Neither of them go very high (Meg's highest is a D) and even though it'd be a challenge for an alto, with the right training you could definitely pull it off.

HUh, what about the Phantom and Raoul what is there ranges??? I'm mainly curous. Alough Carlotta is a diva and acting like a superficial Bitch is always fun. Christine gets to act Like shes going insane.

I think the Phantom is a tenor. I'm not sure, but I remember somewhere reading that.
|
convict24601
|
Raoul is a high baritone/tenor, his higest note is high A flat.
Phantom is a high baritone/tenor aswell, his top note is usually a high A flat, and his low note is A flat two octaves below middle C. From what I've heard, some actors hit a high B in "Your chains are still mine, you belong to ME" (John Owen Jones did in the clip I heard, but im not too sure if anybody else does.....)TVAW could probably help me more on this....

The biggest problem with the E is sustaining it. I can reach about a G (on good days), if I'm singing staccato. However, I've only ever managed to sustain a C, and I need to be very warmed up even for that.
|
happyguava
|
That's weird - I've heard a few people say that. I think I'm just really weird. I find it much more difficult singing those notes above high C staccato, and relatively easy sustaining them.

That's odd. You're lucky though, since Christine sustains the E. I find I have difficulty sustaining a note that high without straining my voice. If it's staccato, it's too quick to put pressure on.
|
happyguava
|
Hahaha, well I'm an odd sort of person I do consider myself lucky, though, because it's much more fun to sustain high notes!!

Ehe. That sounds so much like me. I honestly like, ran around my house for 10 minutes screaming and laughing. Except it was with the F. (I can only do it to Mozart's "Queen of the Night" from The Magic Flute). Beautiful song, listen to it. It's by Maria Callas. <3 Yay for opera.

Ha, same! Only, the boy I know just turned fourteen, I think. He's got a changed voice, and can do normal tenor roles, but he's also got this crazy falsetto, and he was singing Queen of the Night for us. It's the weirdest thing.
