high school Nunsense

My school's doing Nunsense this year, and Jan. 31st is the singing audition.

In the past, she's given all the girls the same song to sing for the audition, same with the guys... That way everybody can learn it at the workshop and such.

Well, this year, they want us to prepare our own song.

I'm going for the part of Sister Mary Amnesia, and I'm planning on singing "Comedy Tonight" from A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.

Is that a good choice, or do you think I should change it?

Do they realize that there are no male parts in the show at all?? It seems a little odd to be doing that with a high school.

As for Comedy Tonight, I find the song a little bland, but you really don't have much time to prepare another song so it should be fine. If you know any other comic-numbers consider those also.

Lol great show, the community theatre im involved in is doing it this winter. It's just 5 girls so definatly no guys can audition.

I would not do Comedy Tonight primarily because it was written specifically to be done with the entire company as an opening song...(Sondheim didn't actually write it until the show almost opened)
I would recomend a funny song by Porter, R & H, or Lerner...Maybe "I Hate Men" from Kiss Me Kate?

well, we're somehow doing Nunsense with a cast of 25... so yhea... no idea what she has planned to make THAT happen.

Well Sr. Amnesia has to be one hell of a singer. Probably the stringest singer of all plus the acting. It is actyually a really awesome and difficult roll. She has to sing high trills and all that and then belt out a country song. So you need to pick somethign that will really show off your singing. Comedy tonight, good for a guy, not for a girl. I will try to think of another song, but am blank at the moment. She kinda reminds me of Kate from Avenue Q but none of Kate's songs are that showy.

Yhea, I'm having trouble finding a showy song that I know... that hasn't been heard a zillion times, or already performed in a past school musical.

It's very difficult. Especally on such short notice. She only told us Thursday that we had to prepare our own song.

I've seen Nunsense quite a few times now, & I realize how great of a singer Sister Amnesia has to be, but I'm sure out of anyone, I could pull off the acting & singing for her... because 99.9% of those auditioning will be completely clueless as to how she should be portrayed.

But you never know...

I picked "Comedy Tonight" because the music I have for it has the range of: the A below middle C, and a high E... which I can sing with no problem.

A theater near me is putting this on except it is a theatre where they have to put some kind of twist into it and for this it is call Nunsense, (A-Men!) All the nuns are men! I think it is awesome I really want to go see it, it should be really good.

Yhea, there are a million Nunsense plays.

A local theatre here is also doing Nunsense, so it's sort of funny to me that we still were able to get the rights to it.

Yeah that is the key most guys sing in it. IM still thinking ill get back asap

Actually any of the female songs from Spamalot would be good. You could sing "Find Your Grail" and really show off your range. You can get the Spamalot music here:

Another idea would be to take a classic musical theater song and do it as "Amnesia"
