Alright, I'm torn.
I'm not sure whether or not I should audition for Troy or Ryan in High School Musical. Though, Ryan is the epiphany of my personality. I really would like a major role like Troy. I can audition for both parts, but I just don't know.

Has anyone here played Troy or Ryan, could you give me some insight?

What should I do for a monologue and audition piece?

I played Ryan. In my school in real life I am Ryan, but less camp and don't wear hats.

Go for Ryan. He has much more depth to him than Troy does. He has all the confidence under Sharpay's wing, then he betrays her etc.

Hehe. I wish I could help. I was just in that show - and the guys that got both of those parts sang pretty weird songs for the parts. Of course, it was a music camp with a limited amount of boys that could play each part. The guy who got Troy sang Giants in the Sky from Into The Woods, and the guy that got Ryan sang - get this - Music of the Night. It made me laugh, but they're both so talented it didn't really matter.

I can't really think of any songs or characters a whole lot like Ryan... if you're a really funny person who doesn't mind embarrassing himself (well, if you're gonna play Ryan... ), you could sing a 90s boy band pop song. Something cheesy and angsty. Or, you could sing Giants in the Sky... but sing it ike Ryan would sing it. Professionally, but with an air of 'I'm acting/performing'.
