HERODI will be DIRECTING JCS and I am trying to come up with a THEME for HEROD...
Don't care for
HEROD - as Elvis
HEROD - as pimp
please list all ideas that you have or seen HEROD portrayed....
I am almost leaning toward a pirate (JACK SPARROW/DEPP) portrayal with a bevy of lady pirates. It might work, or be as corney as hell! Hey, the Keith Richards idea worked for Johnny...anyway, this idea leaves me a little squeemish as well. I did see a aristocrat (with the powdered wigs) for HEROD that looked interesting... Anyway...need ideas!!!

I'm sure it's out of the question because everyone is always so set on putting the show everywhere but its historical time period, but I've seen Herod done true to life, the tetrarch of Judea in the first century, and it was the most effective rendition I've seen.

Well, let's see....I've seen Herod the drag queen, Herod the mobster, Herod the narcissistic pretty boy, and even one who looked like Busta Rhymes. The pirate idea sounds fun, but some might perceive it as being kind of cheesy (though Herod is quite often depicted in such a fashion, so godspeed....).

That's exactly what we did, except his costume, while period, still had overly bright colors and inappropriate fabrics. But I loved it.

I've played Herod as a stereo-type Jewish person. But it offended some people (mostly jewish people).

How about a jungle-type thing? I'm thinking of something like the Monkey King in THE JUNGLE BOOK ("I Wanna Be Like You").

I like Herod as a politician (which he was) with a big "Vote Herod" sign behind him.

I did "Herod" of Zeigfield Follies (very pink) and Herod the Puppet in Edinburgh (we literally did a "Chicago - reached for the gun" on it with Caiaphas as the puppetteer...
