Help

ok, so my community theatre is doin Annie...I've wanted to be annie since I saw it- when I was 2. I'm now 13 and possibly a little too old...*tear* but i still want to do my best audition and see what happens...I cannot figure ou twhat song to sing. i'm sure they get tired of "tomorrow" and "maybe" at the auditions, but those songs are the best for my voice- out of ANY production...any suggestions? (i'm a soprano-mezzo soprano...)
thanks ya'll

For the role of Annie, you must be a belter. So I suggest singing a very belty song. My first thought was "Johnny One Note" from Babes in Arms since most belt songs are a bit grown up and this one isn't.

If you're going for a general orphan, "Put On A Happy Face" from Bye Bye Birdie might be ideal.

Do you have to sing a song from the show or can you sing any song at all??
Musicalmouse

Any song at all.

Well something from hairspray would be good, because most of it is belty but its alittle over done. Johnny One Note is a good song. If you wanted something from the show that wasn't going to be to over done, if you could belt "you're never fully dressed without a smile" that would be really good, because it shows off a trained voice, and not alot of people do that song.

hm..i've never seen hairspray..lol any other suggestions? I'm sort of coming to reality that o
m possibly a little too old, but i might still have a chance, because there aren't too many girls that age with the ability..it will probably draw a ton more girls to this audition, however...
Also, don't know the director, she's new..so I have no idea what she likes, belty or more refined...
future starr

Well annie has to be belty...if she not then well..shes not annie lol
Musicalmouse

not necessarily..in the '99 movie, she wasn't very belty at all...

anywho, I can belt, I just need a little work on it (I have avoice teacher and we'll work on it..)
but, possibly something easy to belt would help.. Smile

No, if she doesn't belt, "Tomorrow" doesn't very omptimistic... or very good for that matter.

As to the song, I sang "Be Kind to Your Parents" from Fanny, but other good songs might be:
Amayzing Mayzie from Sussical the Mussical
I Got Rythm from Crazy for You
Make 'em Laugh from Singin' in the Rain
Put On a Happy Face from Bye Bye Birdie
As for the age thing I wouldn't worry about it too much. I played Annie when I was in 8th grade. Just go out there and do your best. Break a leg.

o_0 Whoa, wait! What theatre are you auditioning at?

I'm just wondering because Annie's going on at my local theatre right now.
Musicalmouse

Rose children's theatre.
Hmm..thanks for all the suggestions. i'll go over it with my voice teacher.
