Help With Cinderella!I think this might have been discussed but i'm pretty sure my school is doing Into the Woods next year. I have a wide vocal range and my friends tell me I look the part but I need help with my audition song. I want to do something from the show but I'm not sure what song. Help would be great. Thanks :]

Two General Rules You're Trying to Break:
1) Never audition with a song from the show unless asked to do so.
2) Never use Sondheim for an audition song...it's difficult for the pianst to sight read and can also expose any weaknesses you have as a singer and performer in general.
First off...do they want you to sing a song from the show?

If you want to do a song from the show, The best choice is On the Steps of the Palace.

Yeah so i talked to some girls that are trying out too and they said that our directors want us to sing from the show but we don't have to. All the directors need to hear is a song that they know so they can get the feel of our voices. Thanks for the help again. :]

Well that doesn't help you guys that much...how should you know what the directors know? I would say go with on the steps of the palace then...

I'm in the same dilemma as her, and I am almost positive my director will want us to sing from the show (she always does)
So what do you guys think about singing Cinderella's part from "No One is Alone"?

music is my life!!!

i'm not sure about that one... if you have to only do one i'd do OTSOTP but for a contrast i'd do NOIO

on the steps of the palace is definitely a good song for something from the show. however, i suggest having a little back-up, something that's not from the show...just in case they need something else?
since you're going for cinderella...the song that pops into my head right away is "home" from BATB?

hum. i think more of a classical legit sounding soprano song would be better, don't you think? cindy doesn't do any belting like "home" requires, sooo....maybe not that piece.
although this music is tough for an accompanist, maybe something from "the light in the piazza"? clara is an cinderella like character with some beautiful soprano music. take a look at that if you're in need of a song that is something other than "into the woods".
s- "the beauty is" from "the light in the piazza" would work best. if you want/need the sheet music, let me know, i can email it to you.
GOOD LUCK!

Uh, yeah, Home for Cinderella is not a great idea. Not the right voice type.
