Help! (Wierd Situation)

Hi,

Auditions for My Favorite Year at a theatre near me are about two weeks from now. On the website it says that you must be 16 to audition. I'm fourteen now, (15 in December) but I do look mature for my age. So I have two questions.

1) Would it be innapropriate (excuse the spelling!) to ask if they would see me if they had time?

and 2) (considering they said yes) What would be a good part for a 15 year old female? I saw the role of Tess but would like more information about the character if anyone had it, and what a good audition song would be. They suggest a short, upbeat song from a 1950's/1960's musical.

Thanks in advance!

You're at a tough age. Too young for adult/teenage roles but too old for kid roles. You probably don't look/act as mature as you think, and if the ad said 16 and up that's probably all they want. Otherwise they'd say "All teenagers" or "14 and up"

Sorry to be so blunt about it but that's the way it works, I guess.

Thanks, and yeah I just lost out on a role because of my age. I was too old to be play a kid but too young to play an adult. Oh well, I'll grow up eventually!

14 was my least favorite year for theatre because of that very reason, so I totally relate...Give it time! Smile

It never hurts to ask, but the other issue may be that they don't want to deal with child labor issues (if they pay). We use an 18 year old cut off on some shows for that exact reason.

I e-mailed the director and he said it was fine, and that I could audition. I'm really excited, but I still have no idea what song I should sing.

Anyone have any good audition songs that are short and from a 1950's/1960's musical? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I played Tess, and it's a very small role--five or six lines. Luckily I got to double in all the fun chorus numbers MFY has. I love this show! I think for my audition I sang "How Long Has this Been Going On" from Rosalie, but I don't know if that was necessarily an appropriate song--it was a last minute sort of situation. If I were auditioning again, I'd do something upbeat.
