HELP ME PLEASE

Soooo.. It's my 16th birthday! And I got a great present (finding out my show this summer)! The director called me and said its A Funny Thing...Forum.

AUDITIONS ARE ON MONDAY NIGHT! SO I NEED AN AUDITION SONG NOW!

Characters wanted, if anyone knows the voice parts and type of role.

HYSTERIUM Pseudolus' hapless fellow slave and slave to Senex & Domina

PSEUDOLUS Playful, comic ringmaster of the show and slave to Hero

Thanks so much! Do you know if any of the male parts can be played by females? My director said so in a message he left me but he didn't say which parts. Just wondering because Philia doesn't sound right for me but I don't know about the other girl.

I'm not all that familiar with the show (so this could be off), but I suppose the Proteans could be...originally I thought Hysterium too, but then there's the Hysterium dresses up as a girl thing, so nevermind on that, haha.

Lol, thanks. Anyone know a good audition song for a mezzo-soprano belter. I have a quiet head voice, sometimes sounds pure sometimes sounds nasal. Best at belting. Comfortable in high alto range. I'm obviously brunette, um I guess petite. But a bit chubby in my opinion. I'm 16 (as of today) and you can check my signature for past roles.

Audition song please!

my college did forum a few years ago and lycus was played by a woman. unfortunately, forum is not a very good show for women.

I know. =/. But my director said he's converting some male roles into females.

i don't know how many he feasibly CAN change. though they did change pseudolus into a male for whoopi goldberg, so anything's possible, i guess. our prologus was a woman, too, now that i think of it, and was NOT pseudolus.

somehow, that does not seem so cute to me for a sixteen year old girl who is auditioning for forum. i don't think it's a very appropriate audition song in general, but especially not for a teenager and a fairly squeaky-clean sondheim show.

Yeah, it is cute, but too much for me. I'm pretty flat actually =/ so it's not the best song for me.

The musical director said to look for an upbeat song not too belty. But belting is my specialty!

you need to decide who you want to go for first! that can be difficult when you are unsure what roles are going to be male and what roles are going to be female. i say, if you don't know the show, do your homework and figure out which role appeals to you most, whether it's male or female, and work your audition around that.

Yeah thanks, I know. But that's why I put info about me - anyone know a part that sounds right for me? I'm researching but I don't really know.

I think I've decided to audition for Domina. I'd like a change - I usually play characters that are ditzy, loud, or real characters. Domina sounds conceited yet funny. There's also a lot of talented auditioners and auditioning for the supporting role might do me well. Also, she's a mezzo, and that's my most comfortable range.

Oh my gosh my auditions are Monday night!! Ahhhhhh!

Someone help me find a good audition song for Domina. Or a male role that may sound good for me.

Also, does Domina have a love interest? My boyfriend convinced me to do his summer basketball team but I convinced him to do stage crew for this summer play.

domina is married to senex, though i wouldn't exactly call him a 'love interest.' she's very much the dominant one in the relationship.

Now I'm kind of into Prologus, strange enough. i like the song comedy tonight. do you think they could make Prologus a female role? I don't know if they're making Prologus and Pseudolus the same person. I'll find out tomorrow morning at an orientation thing. So anyone know a good audition song still? Sorry I'm so impatient - I'm just REALLY excited and nervous.

prologus can definitely be a woman. it was in the show done at my college and it worked pretty well. usually pseudolus plays prologus, and then changes into pseudolus at the end of the song, but a lot of theatres looking to expand the number of parts will chop that off and make it a different person. a good audition song for domina would be something that shows off your overbearing side.

I kind of pictured Prologus to be like Leading Player.

Or should I stick to Domina, where I'm thinking "Little Girls" ??

Ugh do my songs sound terrible for me?

I don't even know if I should try out for Domina cause after listening to her song, I don't know if I can reach those notes.

But I'm finding out A LOT at my orientation tomorrow morning.

Someone help because I'll be at a cousin's baby shower from noon - 4ish. And my audition is like around 7. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

those sound like pretty decent choices, but make sure you can hit domina's notes if you're trying out for her. prologus is lower.

ohh gosh. they're making us sing a verse of comedy tonight and also a verse of lovely for girls.

then tomorrow around 12 we have acting auditions.

and wednesday around 12 we find out our parts. omgomgomgomg

GUESS WHAT!

these are roles open to females:

Pseudolus/Prologus
Philia
Domina
Lycus
& the proteans + girls like geminae, gymnasia, etc

I know a girl perfect for Philia, one perfect for Domina, and one perfect for Lycus.

So I'm going out for Pseudolus!

Omg I just auditioned. I'm on my friend's sidekick actually. I think it went pretty well. I belted comedy tonight the beginning and had an even mix but when i got to the last few high lines i was like raspy head voiceish =/. Do you think i still have a chance at pseudolus/prologus?

Also i'm practicing for acting audititions. How should Pseudolus act, or how should lycus, erronius, hysterium, domina, or philia act? I am unsure which character i will be asked to read for.
