Hello I'm new to the board, and I need some advice! I have always LOVED this show, and it was a dream come true to audition and get cast, but I auditioned for a wicked stepsister of Cinderella because I am more of a mezzo-soprano, but I have unexpectedly been cast as Rapunzel! I hate to admit it, but I don't think that I can sing that high!!! Or scream bloody murder for that matter... Any advice as to how to sing those notes? Has anyone ever been in a production or seen one in which Rapunzel sings an octave lower? I'm wondering if that will be an option... Is it possible to train your voice to sing out of your normal range? I've taken plenty of voice lessons, I've just developed more of my middle voice. HELP! Any advice is greatly appreciated! Am I screwed? The production is in August so there may be time to work on it.... ***runs off screaming like Rapunzel***

Congrats! A fellow Rapunzelian (yes I just made up that word)!

The highest Rapunzel goes up to is a B flat a couple of times (3 I think) and dosen't hold it more then a quarter note or a half Im not sure... the rest of the notes range from high G to middle C (first midnight if any are wondering where I got that from!!) I doubt it would be brought down an octve I think Rapunzel would lose some of her innocence but if it had to be... probley not. Are you going to add in Our Little World?

For reaching these notes... open your mouth, relax your jaw, relax in general and go high ! lol

Screaming is fun... people hold thier ears when they know I have to scream ... anyone can scream!!! But if you feel you can not funny scream like a low ah!!! Like in the revival she didn't go all out scream she did that wierd funny scream.

Thanks for the input, and good luck on your production! I don't know if we're going to keep "Our Little World" but I hope we do because that song is HIGH-larious and would be a joy to perform. Are you doing it in your show?

Rehearsals don't start until July, I was thinking about taking some lessons between now and then, working on those Cs and Gs! Keep me posted on how your show goes, and any tidbits re: the role of Rapunzel, i.e. how you played it, etc. Thanks again!

Keep talking to Britt. Not only is she a Rapunzel, but she would be really good at helping you at any part in this show. Britt's a multi-character actress .

Our show is going pretty well but there are still a few kinks. We are going personal mic-less this year... Not that my screaming will effect anyones hearing any less

How Im doing Rapunzel is everything over the top loud everything. I see her as clueless (not her fault!! lol ) frantic, phyco, and hystarical. Every line make it huge

This character is going to be a real stretch for me, although I do consider myself a little psycho...but never clueless! I am usually pretty mellow, so running around screaming hysterically is going to be fun (I hope!) Hooray for getting parts that you totally don't expect to get or feel prepared to handle!
